The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I hope the government here is being proactive
Sorry to disappoint you but have you not seen this shower over the last 18 months?

Luckily it’s the TGA and ATAGI that have the pen here so I’m fairly confident that vaccination down to at least 12 will be coming.

There’s still many, many adults to vaccinate before the government needs to think about doing children. They can wait and see how countries overseas find their child vaccination programs go over coming months.

We really need QLD to start firing on all cylinders, the apathy up here is really scary - not helped by the fact our CHO is hardly driving it and not leading by example - which is inexcusable.

NSW really should be driving more as well given their population base and all their mass centres open now.

If QLD and NSW really lifted we would have our big 3 states all firing though big numbers and it would make a big material difference.

(Yes I know WA isn’t doing well, per usual but they have an immaterial population, for statistic purposes)
According to the ABC’s Vaccine tracker, WA is doing better than SA, NSW and QLD. I agree from the country’s point of view Vic, NSW and Qld are the ones we need to drive it. However it’s good to see the small population states and territories really stepping up as well.

Fear is primary motivator across all species.
Queenslanders have had little to fear from Covid in a direct sense ; other backyards are not Qld backyards.
The continuing misery for Victorians will help with vaccine uptake but until we get a local outbreak the uptake will likely remain sluggish

My sister-in-law in Brisbane is mid 70s so has been eligible since late March. She finally got vaccinated a week ago. She wasn’t nervous or hesitant just hadn’t got round to it and other things kept getting in the way….

I may of misheard Greg Hunt, but I think he just said that 500,000 doses of Pfizer would now be arriving under the Covax Facility that Australia had signed up to.

This would be in addition to the direct supply deal with Pfizer.

He has announced an additional 100,000 Pfizer doses for Vic over 3 weeks starting on the 14th June and a doubling of AZ doses to GPs in Victoria for 2 weeks.

I didn't see COVAX discussed in the clip I saw, but the clip I saw was only part of the press conference.

Yes I heard the other part, and that has been reported by the media and so one can check

Commonwealth to give 100k more Pfizer vaccines to Victoria

By Abbir Dib, The Age

UPDATED: Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says the Federal Government will be releasing additional vaccines for Victorians.
“We will provide an extra 100,000 Pfizer vaccines to the Victorian Government over a three-week period, commencing from June 14,” he said.
“This will allow them to work through some of their existing inventory and will provide that extra 100,000 doses which will support 50,000 individuals receive vaccines over the coming weeks.
“The Australian government will double doses for GPs in Victoria for each of the next two weeks from 115,000 to 230,000 AstraZeneca. This will help drive forward the vaccinations for the over 50s.”
Mr Hunt said Saturday was a record day for vaccinations across Australia with over 88,000 Australians being vaccinated.
“772,752 Australians have been vaccinated in six days. This means that over 5 million vaccines have now been delivered in Australia,” he said.

. But he also very quickly mentioned Covax, and the media does not seem to have recorded what he said.. I was only half paying attention as I was doing something else at the time.

I think it was along the lines of the 500,000 Pfizer doses were now to be supplied under the Covax Facility, and I think it was in the nearer term (but again I was distracted at the time). .

It was in answer to a journalist’s question. He said that in July they would be building up the amount of Pfizer they were getting to 600,000 doses. But in addition to that they would be getting 500,000 doses from Covax in the next week.

Over 5 million vaccinations now and the weekly total is over 800,000
Approx needed for herd immunity = 20M fully vaccinated = 40M doses, less 5M already in arms = 35M to go. 800K per week = 44 weeks = all done April 2022, one month before election. The PM would be in cloud nine if that happened.

My second Pfizer dose 11.15AM tomorrow.

Booking Krakow return departing 1/7/2022 on QFF as soon as QFF bookings open, should have done in around 2 months.

We are supposed to be swimming in Pfizer by Q4, so could go even faster. Herd Immunity is possibly around 80%, but then there are the under16s to consider as well. I can see us getting to 60% without too much of a problem, but they are going to need to really work to get it higher. Although hopefully peer pressure will come into play - the more people vaccinated the more advocates there are.

And Oz is currently at about 10% of the population? So, a bit of a way yet.

The GP association state they delivered 6 million flu doses in 6 weeks in 2020. If supply can be ramped up to GPs, figures like that combined with pharmacies and mass vaccination centres could see the 44 weeks substantially reduced!

As I have posted here/elsewhere using that "doubling" methodology for estimation isn't realistic.

Irrespective of the rate of jabs it will still be three months before those getting their second AZ would have it.

Some media used that methodology a month ago to stretch estimates out to mid/late 2022.

If every Australian Adult who wants to be vaccinated has their first jab by end of September they should have had their second jab by end of December.

By September/ October you would think most people will in fact be getting Pfizer, with only 3 weeks between jabs
