Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Keep reading about whether it is or isnt Signiture is getting very boring...

My thoughts exactly. Is it that hard to just open a bottle a taste... Anyone who had Signature and/or FDR1A before will be able to tell the difference, it’s not rocket science!

Tasting note for the Yalumba Scribbler Cabernet Shiraz 2016:

It is very defined, expressive and opens with ripe, floral aromatics, red currants, cedar and dark purple plums. The Shiraz shines through in the palate which is quite rich and dense with an inky plummy juiciness. Serious tannins flow long to the finish and are quite earthy.
:) very similar. Doesn't really match the 'under cost' and 'iconic' descriptions though. Anyone tried their delivery yet?

I've been scouting BWS for lines on clearance currently at 30% off that I will be keeping an eye on and waiting until they reach 50%. Many are outside the area I'm willing to travel to so I'll be sure to post those once they drop.

So far in Sydney I'm watching:
Hardys Eileen Hardy Shiraz
Teusner Righteous Grenache
Cirillo 1850 Ancestor Vine Grenache
Petaluma Coonawarra
Wirra Wirra Rsw Shiraz
Teusner Albert Shiraz
Hardys Hrb Shiraz

Also noticed some of the above plus the following in Adelaide
Torbreck The Steading Grenache Shiraz Mataro
Wolf Blass Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Malbec

Unfortunately BWS prices are often well above the price you would get buying direct from the winery, not to mention their various retail competitors. So even at 50% it's often not worth buying. I was only tempted during the week because I was able to stack the 10% off a mixed 6 pack with the 15% off codes
has anyone else ever received a "Heads up, your order has been randomly selected for a security check & may be delayed. You will receive a text message shortly when your order is ready" message on a BWS order? on the initial invoice email... been waiting for a click and collect since Tuesday, i rang and they said 'the order is locked', i just have to wait, not sure how long...

Re: Signature, would the cork give any clues? I know I've seen at least vintage on corks for upper end wines before. Sometimes more. :) No pressure @1erCru :) Based on my research, and posts on here, it's likely the Signature BUT tasting notes say 14.5% and stickers posted here say 14.0%. So I'm going to say an adjusted Yalumba export version that is not quite the Signature.

'Heads up, your order has been randomly selected for a security check & may be delayed.' Every second order. This is quite usual. Delays things only slightly in my experience.

What you describe, I've never seen before.

Not a deal but will change the subject from the current signature/not signature debate... someone crack a bottle already and put us out of our misery 😂

Wild duck creek allocation period is coming up and tasting notes for new release due in about a week. Any suggestions from the group?

Hi, glad you brought it up. This is my allocation of Wild Duck

I guess ideally I would have ordered a Mighty Wild Duck Muck, but it is a bit above my paygrade. But I think they will keep me happy for a while.

Their sparkling Shiraz sadly not available this year.

Fantastic, thanks. The pressings was already a definite. Haven’t tried the Alan’s..

Would also love some duck muck but probably can’t afford 3 bottles right now.. building a house (with a cellar that probably deserves a few) maybe next year
yes - I will be putting it against Tatiarra Cambrian Shiraz head to head
I look forward to hearing about this 😍

my biggest issue is making a bottle stay fresh as I tend to forget and then waste half a bottle!
I do still drink upto half a bottle in the evening, then I vacuum pump it and store in the fridge. The next day I remove the bottle about 3 hours before consuming while leaving the vacuum seal on. Then before drinking I remove the vac seal and it is (almost) as good as the night before. Can be repeated. That is my technique and I am sure others have their own.
The simplest, cheapest, and one of the most effective ways of preserving wine for a few days after opening, is still to pour into a half-bottle, filling it to the brim and sealing with a screw cap, then keeping it upright in the fridge.
