LifeMiles has launched another bonus miles offer (surprise, surprise).

Up to 160% bonus miles until 1 June 2021 (145% bonus for purchases up to 15,000 miles and 155% bonus for purchases of 16,000-50,000 miles)

You can get a slightly higher bonus by buying via OMAAT - Buy LifeMiles With A 175% Bonus (1.2 Cents Each) | One Mile at a Time

Anyone biting?

Nope! Not this round. Aeroplan's last sale was pretty compelling - even with the 175% bonus Aeroplan was cheaper than Lifemiles - and compared to LM, easy to search and redeem, plus free cancellation if you buy your tickets before the end of May or whatever.

LM wins on something like Australia to Asia, but without TG availability it's not a good reason to buy miles :(

Add to that the fact that Aeroplan purchases are in Canadian dollars which are usually almost at parity with A$. Lifemiles were a good investment a few years back when the A$ was > US$, but not now when you are effectively only getting around 3/4 of what you're paying for.

Agree. I'd taken into account the exchange rates. Under the current OMAAT promo of 175% it comes out to 1.2cents per mile, or AUD1.55 cents. Aeroplan was almost exactly the same (1.5 cents per mile with exchange rate of .97).

LM has its uses, but long haul I've now moved to Aeroplan. In fact, I noticed Aeroplan redemptions allow travel on Virgin, with one way business class MEL-PER just AUD450. I can't wait to buy more!

Yeah, I think LifeMiles may have had its time. It was good while it lasted, but the website is still awful and the value just isn't as good now Aeroplan has come onto the scene (along with a functional website, plus Etihad and VA award availability in addition to Star Alliance).

140% bonus on now, though may wait to see if OMAAT has an increased level. Tend to agree with comments above but I do have quite a few points already and I think I only need to buy 1000 points to keep these alive.

Thanks, I might have to buy a 1000 miles on both mine and the wife's accounts as my stash expires Feb.

The frequency of these offers combined with the apparent lack of premium awards worries me.Will they really restart?
Even if LM survives that will other airlines ever make premium cabin awards available?

There's reasonable premium award availability... just not too/from Australia. And I guess Australia isn't really their target market.

NH/OZ/LH/LX/LO/TP/OS are all available in varying quantities TATL, TPAC and Europe-Asia in business. And LH F is also available via LM close-in, at least TATL.

But absolutely none when we like to travel ie Spring and Autumn. Certainly none on NH I have seen.

So for example when I was planning my trip back from the UK there was good availability on LM for NH ex VIE to TYO in business class right through March and April. From Frankfurt the availability was a little more patchy, and not available in the business 'room', or whatever it’s called, but available on the other flight ex FRA. LM was providing connections from select European airports on OS and LH (London for example was ex LCY rather than LHR).

That was for one seat, but most of the NH flights had 2 seats available. Some of those connected through to SYD.

I was looking at March TYO-FRA specifically on NH but nary a J award was to be found. That was ` 4-6 weeks ago.

The answer is ‘yes’, airlines are making premium cabin awards available to LM. Including Lufthansa First. Would I buy Lifemiles at the moment unless I had a specific award in mind and confirmed availability? No!

I see that there's now a 175% miles promo, and combined with last week's news that Avianca has come out of the bankruptcy process safely, I'm somewhat interested in buying without confirmation of exactly when I'd be using them (in an ideal world, late 2022 to North Asia, hitting the business sweet spot for 90k each way).

Frustratingly, I can see Thai availability from MEL-BKK and BKK-KIX, for example, but only in economy? Do they open up premium availability separately?

Edit: There is however business availability for SYD-ICN, which could work.

I've been looking for SYD-BKK for June without luck. I have over 300,000 lifemiles and won't be topping until I've used up these miles.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Awards australia to north asia should be 50k outbound, 40k return.

I would *not* be buying lifemiles unless you had a specific award in mind, a specific date, and had confirmed - as far as possible - that your award was bookable. LM is too risky at the best of times. At the moment with TG offering little, if any premium travel out of Australia, it really only leaves Asiana. No guarantees of availability.

Thanks; and yes that's what I meant on the mileage prices.
