An update about your Membership benefits

American Express continually reviews the products and benefits we offer our Card Members. On 30 June 2021, the Australian Financial Review benefit will be discontinued. This means that after this date, you will no longer have access to the complimentary digital subscription to the Financial Review offered as part of the Platinum Card Membership.

Please know that eligible Card Members can enrol in the benefit until 23 June 2021 and receive access to the complimentary subscription until 30 June 2021.

We are dedicated to delivering value to our Card Members and will have some exciting news to share with you soon.

Not a huge issue for me but this may have been a valuable perk for some. Hope the "exciting news" coming soon is something decent..

AFR gone is disgraceful. Another watering down of our benefits. "Exciting news", another $5 shop bit of cough. First we lost the Priority Pass restaurant credits and now this. Close to throwing the card in. Don't get me start on the travel credits, overpriced fares anyway. Angry.

Anyone know if cancelling the plat charge card would mean you lose the companion card straight away?

And they could have given a longer grace period for existing card holders for the AFR benefits, three months aren't a lot especially since they haven't told us what they will replace AFR with.

I don't believe that you lose the companion card although unsure what it means for the accompanying travel credit

Yes interesting marketing / customer management technique

It better not be this 😢

Not thrilled either, surprisingly the AFR has been a good source of news for me and I'm not quite prepared to pay at least $628 a year to subscribe on my own. Knowing AMEX, the replacement will be some more gym credits at centr – a complete waste of time for me :p

They made such a big deal about this being such a valuable benefit when it came in and hiked the annual fee. This is pretty poor form and a big devaluation.

They value this at $628 per subscription. Given supp card holders have access to this benefit, this devaluation could be deemed to be worth $3140!

I know I am beating a dead horse, but it feels like Amex is trying to turn the Platinum card into a lower-tier Centurion card. ie. a card you hold for prestige rather than for value.

This would explain why they started making Platinum cards out of metal rather than plastic.

How do I downgrade to a Gold Charge instead for actual value then? :p
