Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Aaah, all those recent posts make me so desperate to fly Qantas again so needless to say, I've just booked flights to come back home straight in the first week of the trans-Tasman bubble opening as this Economy-only duopoly of cough here in NZ has really taken the joy out of traveling over the past year.

Does anyone dare any guesses what the service will be like across the Tasman- can I expect proper French champagne and the usual Neil Perry stuff for food you think? Looks to me from the reports on here that domestically, it's mostly back to 'normal' during lunch and dinner hours.

I've also booked a little trip from Sydney up to Brissy and back for my first trip home after a long long time- are there any significant changes in service (mostly food/drinks) that I need to be aware of?

Just don't expect spirits or pre-departure drinks (other than maybe a bottle of water if you're lucky) and the Qantas J service is otherwise pretty good at the moment.

Not sure about champagne and amenity kits on the international flights, although Qantas has been selling off a lot of that old stock recently so they may have some lying around.

Ohhh, ohh, I will take a guess.

I would say don't expect a linen over the table, with individual items then placed down...

With this then cleared away and followed with a main dish, and then finally a dessert/cheese service. (Note: Qantas wouldn't lie the cloth over the side panel, that was just so I could remember the pic was from an A330.)

My guess is, everything will be served on a tray, with a linen over the top. And the side salad and entree will be missing, with the desert already on the tray, something like this...

So... interesting to hear back what they will actually be doing!

Tasman flights currently have pre take off Champagne so don't expect that to change.

The current service is a single linen lined tray (this may change though).

"Blade steak with mushroom sauce, vegetables and potato cake"
PXL_20210410_094454581.jpg

Ordering steak in the air is always a bit of a risk, but today it paid off. The protein was closer to a slow cooked casserole or stew, with a solid chunk of chuck in a mushroom & red wine sauce. The meat came out tender and was very easy to cut up with the knife inspired metal object given to passengers.

Unlike the beef, the potato cake may not have been delivered to passengers in the state NP intended. It was soggy and stringy - if you're reading this Neil, go with mash next time.

Bakery wasn't loaded despite departing late, suspect catering at MEL either ran out of bread for the day (we were the 3rd last flight to depart) or ours had been nabbed by the Southern Lights charter flight.

Other option was a brown rice salad.

QF738 ADL-SYD, Monday 5 April, 10:55 am departure.

Offered choice of a mushroom quiche or the ever unpopular chickpea salad. I think nearly the whole cabin went with the quiche. It was pretty decent and tasty. Coffee and muffins offered and also wine which wasn’t bad for a morning departure.

Service was efficient and unobtrusive and reminded me of the better level of service normally experienced on international flights. Wine came with plenty of refills and without prompting so bonus points for that.

Overall a very pleasant flight. Much better than on the way over.

Anyone done transcon J lately? Am flying QF653 tomorrow, wondering what to expect.

Was given this recently.

A sausage roll for a SYD-BNE flight departing at 1pm and a pie of some sort for a flight BNE-CNS departing at 3pm. No BNE lounge access as it was closed.

I've had better.
