Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Hating being right all the time. Ok here we go.

1) Bets on how long it takes QLD CHO to panic and lock down Brisbane

2) Bets on how long the lockdown will be

3) Bets on how long the poorly prepared / hyperventilating states like WA (perfect timing for today as well!) TAS and SA will take to close their borders

Well I'm supposed to fly to BNE in 2 hours. At this stage, I don't see any reason why a full lockdown of Brisbane would be necessary (at least, not over the next couple of days) but will be watching the upcoming press conference very closely... :(

Welcome to QLD! Asleep usually every day, hyperventilating the next ;)

Funny - I'm almost doing the opposite to you ;)

But yes unless this Dr also moonlighted as an exotic dancer and got up close and personal with 5000 clients on the Thursday they were in the community then I don't see any reason why there would be a full lockdown either, but its been done before here on far less terms than this - so I'm assuming we will panic again I mean why not, nothing else in the news at the moment.

The ABC covid blog might be a few people’s source on today’s updates

Just yesterday ABC blog commented they would be having a day off today. Nup. Covid makes a return. Just like when we post in this thread that everything has gone quiet. Maybe that's how the Covid 5G conspiracy theory started - Covid reads the Internet!

Well just listened to the presser - seems quite proportionate this time. Maybe the era of panicked lockdowns is over - always optimistic. :)

Yes if I heard correctly the only thing that I would do differently is that I would have all people at the exposure sites isolate immediately and get tested. Whereas I think they said that they were just asked to watch for symptoms.

I may have misheard though.

We should just be expecting that this will happen from time to time, and just roll out the two rings of containment method.

The virus is infectious and readily transmissible, but quite controllable. We should have faith in what has been shown to work well.

So hopefully that will happen, and not more unnecessary lockdowns or border closures.

Please don’t ever post such common sense thoughts/suggestions, it just won’t be tolerated 🤣

Now where were....

Lock the borders! Shut it down! Slam it shut!

Or as I recently heard someone say whilst sitting on the tarmac in Perth - bring in the Gestapo 😵.

No mask wearing in Perth. We just do our Covid Safe WA app so we can be traced if there is an outbreak.

Here we go again...

Only thing I’d like to see would be higher surveillance testing rates in Sydney but you know, whatever...

On the plus side 'Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the individual had received their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination" , and as NSW also put household members of HQ workers into 1a so hopefully people they live with also have some protection already.

Now we wait to see what the irrational states do in reponse and if there is any double standard wrt QLD where infected doctor wasnt vaccinated vs nsw where the HQ worker was vaccinated.

From ABC covid blog:

There are three cases that Queensland authorities are looking at/talking about.

We have the doctor who tested positive on Friday. She met with two people from hotel quarantine who were beginning to show symptoms on Wednesday. She was "wearing appropriate PPE", authorities say, so there's an investigation as to how she caught it. Her close contacts have come back with negative tests, and 238 community contacts are currently being tested.

Then there's the case announced yesterday. They tested positive on day 12 of their hotel quarantine and so authorities are trying to figure out whether they caught COVID-19 in the hotel (which has been locked down for 72 hours) or whether they always had it and just tested positive on day 12. This case has been linked to one of the cases the doctor saw on Wednesday. They were both in hotel quarantine at the same time.

And finally, there's the "new" case announced today. It's considered a "historical" case and is unconnected to the doctor's case.

Several venues have been listed by NSW Health officials as having been exposed to COVID-19 after visits from a security guard who tested positive on Sunday.

Urgent contact tracing is underway after NSW Health revealed the state’s first positive case in 55 days had been registered by a 47-year-old man who works as a security guard at two COVID-19 hotels for returned travellers.
The man does shift work at the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney’s CBD and the Mantra hotel at Haymarket. He also has a full-time job in an office.

NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed the man visited the following venues:
– Bexley Aquatics Centre: Saturday, March 13, 9am to 9.30am
– Pancakes on The Rocks, Beverly Hills: Saturday March 13, at 10.45am to 12pm
Dr Chant also named two train lines that were exposed.
“A train from Hurstville to the city arriving at 6.30pm on Friday, March 12 and city to Hurstville leaving at 7am,” Dr Chant said on Sunday.

Wasn't it a deal that people working in Quarantine Hotels don't have another job?
...as the wheel turns.

Why is common sense so uncommon?

"NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said the "working hypothesis" was that he had been infected by a positive case in quarantine at the Sofitel between 7:00pm on March 6 and 7:00am on March 7.

"What we have done as a precaution is reached out again to the workers that were at that hotel at that time because, if this person was exposed, we are obviously thinking could anyone else have been exposed," Dr Chant said.
....
The security guard also works at another venue but Dr Chant said he mostly remained in an office in that role and work was underway to determine the level of risk involved.
"

If the man does also have a full time office job (where he seemingly worked Monday March 8th to Friday March 12th) - why hasn't that location been listed if his trip on Friday evening March 12th (into work? at a QH) was?

"NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the guard received his first Pfizer vaccine jab on March 2 and was due to receive the second dose this week.

The Pfizer vaccine is administered as two shots, spaced at least three weeks apart.
"

In old maths 2 + 21 = 23. So earliest 2nd injection would be March 23rd - is our Health Minister living in a different date zone?

BTW - Qld border likely to be shut around May 8th - as another attempt to travel domestically is scheduled. Must keep my perfect record!

Interesting as I remember someone baking Vic because a Vic HQ member went to one volunteers function. And yet here you have someone with a fulltime office job and no outrage at all.
Not only did he have a full time office job, but supposedly worked at more than one of the quarantine hotels. Looks like we’re doomed to keep repeating history.
