Qantas Business Class meals & menus

SYD J lounge tonight, not much on offer food wise at all but only had about 20 minutes in there due to our inbound being half an hour late due to storms. SYD-ADL @ 1950, meal option was the cheese plate or the wagyu stew with polenta.
Went the hot meal option and thought it was a decent enough meal and certainly tasted better than it looked. A couple of bits of sourdough to mop up the gravy and a few glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. Pretty enjoyable flight and very well looked after by the crew

Still no tray cloths under the crockery. Maybe it’s only long haul that go the extra?

Domestic has never had linen on the tray. East/west services do have a tablecloth as there are no trays.

International don’t use trays in J either. Premium economy has linen lined trays so perhaps that is what you are thinking of?

Sorry to disagree, but PER-MEL in J last week had trays, and tray cloths. That is, a serviette used as the tray cloth, then crockery, two glasses, and cutlery rolled in another cloth serviette.

I should clarify my post was for pre covid. As you state, east/west is currently trays with linen but imagine at some point will resume to no trays. But still, unless it was east/west, no other domestic flights have had linen.

"Never" is a strong word.

Obviously I'm a bit older than you.

I remember when Domestic Business Class had grey linen and Domestic First class had white. (And no trays for First - meals plated in galley and served directly onto table linen).

QF458 MEL-SYD 1800: Beef stew with polenta
QF460 MEL-SYD 6:30pm: Beef Stew with Polenta too, and Sav Blanc. The flight was changed to an A330 last minute! Probably wouldn't wake up from a slumber next time...

Try 1998 ... before the introduction of "Business First".

The only things on a tray brought out to First were a selection of liquors for the PAX to select from (one or more) such as Drambuie, Contreau etc.

Ah, Ansett may have been different!

I used to fly to Perth quite a bit and as far as I can remember (from at least 1985) the meal came out on a tray, pre-set. That was for TAA and carried across to Australian Airlines. Certainly for flights like CBR-SYD it was served on a single tray due to the short 20 minute-or-so flight times.

In terms of food service, on TAA a tray was also used for the canape service. On MEL/SYD-PER and vv this would be before dinner, swapping to a 'brunch snack' service before landing on breakfast flights.

For those that are still interested, my flight BNE-MEL QF627. Fri, 18 Dec.

The choice was that cold quinoa salad (guess what, quinoa doesn't agree with me either, haha) and a pie, with sliced bread, but not sourdough. I asked if there was any sparkling (no), so had sav blanc with that. Unfortunately the pie was a little cold in the middle, but I ate it anyway because I was afraid that they would try to replace it with the salad! I suspect the cold was because the service was quite swift after takeoff (just as well as some bad turbulence curtailed service for over half an hour of the flight). There was plenty of wine to be had but as I'd guzzled two glasses of sparkling in the lounge (to calm down after the traffic jams on the Bruce Mwy ONCE AGAIN almost made me late to the plane), I stopped them pouring after two, haha.

AN definitely had linen table cloths in F at least into the 90's.

Also IIRC QF dom J also used to have hot towels back in the day too (which I always thought was a bit of a waste of time and effort on short sectors, but I am pretty certain they had them).

Re: pic, I would have preferred my tomato sauce to be in the break in the middle sachet, to be honest.
While the tomato sauce in the pic does serve its purpose, a person would still have to use the tea spoon to scoop the sauce onto the pie.
Yuk, if you have to break the pie apart and use the bit to try and soak up the sauce.
Granted, that piece of bread will do to soak up the tomato sauce, but that looks like a side bit to the meal.
No serviettes to wipe off left over pie or sauce off mouth, eh?
Edit: oo, all these pics and tellings, makes me itchy to fly again.
Can't wait till Jun 2021!
Hopefully we would have a hand on the vaccine by then, and/or it would not get worst, and we get border clousures again.
 
MEL-PER today. I declined the bread, hence blank space. BUT...... notice the tray has a “tablecloth“. The two meal choices were the same as going east: pork fillet in cream sauce, or chickpea with cauliflower salad. I could have eaten that, I’m pretty sure. Then there was a cake in a box which looked very pretty. Others were tucking in happily, but I couldn’t take photos. My meat and veg did taste better than it looks, but I agree that appearance should count. We will have to wait for international travel. Lunch was 10:30am, but wine was still offered!

Covid is the reason given for no pre takeoff drinks. No reason given for it offering drinks after takeoff though! Service was excellent throughout the flight, with FAs going past regularly with water and juice, etc.

MEL -CBR this afternoon. Hot snack of mini pie and 2 sausage rolls. Given the length of flight and time it was fine. Don't know why but off the 12 pax in J, 6 of them had the bubbles - I was virtuous and had mineral water. MrLtL had the red which was quite decent he saiid.
Some would say the bubbles take away their troubles... :D
