And 'looking silly' is a pretty weak argument...
Not really. I look silly enough as it is without wearing useless gimmicks. Anyway to each their own and if you really believe fluorescent socks help then wear them....

I just love some of these myths that people keep inventing when they have nothing better to do or maybe it is just me. I have never had a problem sitting/sleeping in an exit row aisle seat where other passengers trip over my feet. Maybe I am not tall enough or don't travel often enough....
John, I can assure you it is not a myth!

I'm 182cm and stretched out in a WHY exit aisle seat my feet are a good 110 cm in front of the seat. I had this problem, og mentioned it on FT - and I have not looked back.

Had a good 6 hours sleep last night on a 8:50 flight.

Did CMT still show a green tick indicating confirmed against the seat. In my experience a disappearing green tick is an indication that something is afoot!
I was looking for this as it was mentioned on posts last week. Nup, it stayed there, along with 46C ...

As for Y+ seats; they are certainly better for me than Y in respect to sleeping. Being wider I can twist onto my side and sleep in a semi-foetal position. The meals were larger and greater selection + N/C headphone. The foot rest is no use to me as I am too tall to be comfortable using it.

Would I use points/$$$ to upgrade out of an exit row seat for it? No!

Or maybe your feet smell so bad that the odour provides sufficient warning to keep clear :p:p. I know I will often keep my shoes on my feet for the comfort of my fellow passengers ;).

Just like some people believing a chiropractor helps. If a chiropractor actually helped you wouldn't be running to him/her every week for the same useless treatment....

Before I went to a chiropractor I had had knee pain constantly for 5+ years. After treatment the pain was alleviated for a number of years without weekly treatment.

That could be the answer.

I keep my shoes on for my own comfort. I remember taking my shoes off for a few hours during a SIN-PER flight a couple of years ago and when I went to put the shoes back on I noticed the shoes had shrunk.

My feet swell badly and it is more evident on longish flights. Some mornings I struggle to get my shoes on....

I know that shrinking shoe feeling; decent firm fitting socks help alleviate it (whatever their colour).

I also rest my heels on a cabin pillow, reducing pressure on them.

I have tried wearing firm golf socks and they did not help. Short of wearing JOBST stockings, tried them for a couple days and I have sworn off them for good, not much else helps me. If I keep the shoes on during the flight the majority of the swelling and discomfort is in the calves and not too much discomfort in the feet.

Just because you haven't experienced problems then it's a "myth that people are inventing"? Interesting logic :)

I've had numerous incidents where people have stood on my feet on LAX-SYD (and vv) flights, including cabin attendants (usually as they avoiding other passengers crowded in the space that the exit area affords)

By the way I have never seen anyone wearing fluorescent socks in an exit row. How silly of me to make that assumption only based on my experiences. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Is that a typo?

The shoes complaining about the smell too :p
No my feet, and sometimes hands and fingers, do swell badly. It is not a discomfort I would wish on anyone....

I'm travelling today and have an exit row aisle seat pre-allocated (Q class so no upgrade option).

Slightly off topic however i have been told by Qantas they they do not pre allocate exit row seats and that they must be allocated during check in.

To sound stupid, how do i pre allocate an exit row seat?

Attain Platinum status in the FF scheme and you will be able to pre-allocate. Otherwise it is FCFS at checkin

If you are a Qantas Platinum, or Chairmans Lounge, and have an international flight then call up the QFF service centre and ask them to put in a request for an exit row seat. I have never been rejected and all have been allocated within a couple of hours of me calling the QF service centre.
