"My" seat is now unallocated?

Congrats!

I actually found Y+ to be much more comfortable than Y, and probably even worth paying cash for on long haul. What did you think of it, post-trip?

After my op-up to Y+ I am a convert too :)

But how much better than an Exit row seat? (wearing og's recommended white socks)

I still think a lot better. Wider seat, and more recline. Just enough space that you don't feel like you're still in Y. And the food is better, and the service is much much better.
After 9 hours asleep in a Y+ seat, I felt heaps better than after 9 hours squeezed into a Y seat. Well worth it, IMO. I'll happily pay the extra $1k in each direction in future, I think - and the seemingly regular op-ups to J are an added bonus :)

And what is so special about these socks??

Very similar to wearing "glow in the dark" socks when in exit rows. Pax don't tend to see black socks while they're wandering around the cabin/in front of the exit rows, so can tend to trip over them/bump them. White socks are much better for darkened cabins...

Reclined in an aisle exit row on a 744 and trying to sleep in a darkened cabin, you do not get stood upon as much if on your feet are pure white socks (sports socks generally). They are more "visible" to wandering PAX, subliminalary or otherwise.

And yes, I was dubious, but og is correct, it does work!

Totally agree. When I book Y+ I no longer bother putting in for upgrades to J, I am really quite happy back there.

Of course, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face when handed my new boarding pass for upper deck...

I just love some of these myths that people keep inventing when they have nothing better to do or maybe it is just me. I have never had a problem sitting/sleeping in an exit row aisle seat where other passengers trip over my feet. Maybe I am not tall enough or don't travel often enough....

I see you're still waiting in the lounge, Serfty. Seems like the current ETD of 0045 is a little optimistic...

If it works, then go with it.

If what works? Wearing fluorescent white socks just in case? I may as well wear a bullet proof vest as well just in case....

If wearing white socks helps people see you feet in a dark cabin, why wouldn''t you do it. Seems some people have found it helps.

well if it is me, and i saw someone wearing fluorescent socks, i will be laughing at them.

now come to think about it, i always wearing my shoes during long haul traveling. otherwise my feets get too cold.

Because it looks silly. Plus I always have my shoes on anyway.

Seems some people have found it helps.
Just like some people believing a chiropractor helps. If a chiropractor actually helped you wouldn't be running to him/her every week for the same useless treatment....

As you like, but it's pretty harmless. And 'looking silly' is a pretty weak argument... Everyone looks silly on a plane, in baggy PJs and eye-masks, or cheap headsets, or whatever.

I'm not quite sure what kind of evidence you would like to prove efficacy - do you want a randomised controlled trial of n=100 AFFers taking long-haul flights in exit rows, half in white socks and half in black, all reporting back the total number of foot-contact incidents?

Its not the best argument, but urs doesnt help. I use none of the 3 things that you mentioned

Ok. I shouldn't have said 'everyone'. Most people don't look their suave best whilst squeezed into Y, though - even if you manage it! ;)
