I have a friend who flew from Melbourne to Brisbane on Monday 23rd, and went straight into hotel quarantine.
Question:
Does anyone *know* if she will have to serve out her whole 14 sentence, or will she be released on 1 Dec?

ps. I’m looking for knowledge of actual facts, not for opinions...

If I am currently in mandatory quarantine due to entering from a COVID-19 hotspot, that is no longer a hotspot, can I leave quarantine?

No. The risk is from the time you enter Queensland from a hotspot, not when a hotspot is undeclared. If you enter Queensland from a location that is a hotspot at the time you arrive in Queensland, you must complete 14 days quarantine in government arranged accommodation.

You will only be allowed to leave quarantine to exit Queensland.

I can confirm the government both Federal and states remain incompetent!

Just rang QLD Covid border number to enquire about border pass that I thought was dropped from yesterday/today announcement. NOPE!
It still states...... to be UPDATED!!!!!
So the poor call centre staff cannot provide any info until the website is updated...... other than to check regularly 😡

Though that has nothing to do with the federal Government.

"Queensland police Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said road checkpoints at the state's border since March would be removed on December 1.

"If you have not been in a hotspot or overseas for those 14 days, you will be no longer required to have a border pass and can freely travel into Queensland," he said.

"There will be no [road] border checkpoints from that day."

However, Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said anyone who had been in a hotspot would need to fly into Queensland.

"They won't be allowed to travel across the road borders and [must] undergo mandatory hotel quarantine for 14 days, unless they have an exemption," Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said.

He said there would be random road intercepts by police.

Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said police could reinstate the border checkpoints "within a day", if needed."

Federal/National Covid hotline have no idea..... on border passes...... is how it is relevant as they are meant to be a national info service over this pandemic.

🤫 If a story on this drops on ACA or 2GB.....I know nothing!!!!!

And how is any of that a Federal Govt thing? 🤣

Qld often doesn't update their website, including any updated direction, until just before changes come into effect. I'd have a look on Monday.
Their hotspot page has this comment
Queensland borders will open to all of New South Wales and Victoria from Tuesday 1 December 2020. This page will be updated soon.

There has been plenty of reporting about the changes in Fairfax and in News Ltd

Of course not. Federal manages international arrivals, which don't involve "border passes". You are referring to Qld Government border passes. Federal Govt. doesn't advise on State laws and vice versa. This has been the case from the year dot.

Tas open to Victoria from Friday (27 Nov). No change for SA. :(

SA just had another case. Tas won't do anything now.

But great news for Tas that they are open to VIC - that is their biggest market by a country mile and I think their flights will be also jammed full of families reuniting as well :)

Whereas travellers from SA to the NT who were placed in quarantine after the recent SA hotspot declaration were released after just a few days, soon after the declaration (which was in force for less than a week) was revoked

Finally we have successfully acheive opening of borders across Australia, as WA is opening to NSW and Vic!

Yet Qantas has yet to load more flights departing SYD for PER on 8 Dec, meaning if you book now, you will need to fork out thousands for a single ride ticket!

Hope they react quickly and load more flights to Perth immediately!

Various comments and reasons upthread about the time needed to ramp up flights. In the most recent case of SYD-BNE QF loaded more flights fairly quickly from a week out (from 7 Dec) from the announced start date (1 Dec) at very reasonable fares ($129+). The first week (i.e. this week) stayed relatvely expensive ($199+). It was rather later that they loaded more flights for this week, and the number of flights BNE-SYD was increased from 4 to 12 on 10 Dec, but only from 4 to 9 on 3 Dec. There are still $199 seats available in two days time.

So my suggestions would be start hunting for flights that are at least a week out from the start date of border reopening, be patient and see what more comes up, and also do that if you want or need to fly immediately after the border closure.

Some more commentary on flights to PER on this thread.
