ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure Card

It's my "free" card with my mortgage
Nice, if I wasn't paying the annual fee then I'd totally keep the card as the alternatives aren't very great.
As it is I'm thinking I'll hang on to it for one more year (my annual fee is due next week, so I can squeeze one more flight out, just have to book it for a long time forward) and reassess the available offerings then. I think I'll probably have to go back to a separate domestic rewards card and an international no-frills card though.

I am having a very hard time with ANZ to get my fee refunded.

They won't budge and only refund $56 as I used the card for the past 8 months, but haven't used the flights or the lounge passes.

Quite hard to deal with them.
Have lodged a complaint to get the $170 at least... the $55 would be the Rewards program fee that I cannot use as transfers to Velocity are still locked.

I always thought ANZ was a premium bank to deal with but the CC service is awful.
Hopefully, I will get the fee refunded.

Just got off the phone now with them, wouldn’t budge on the $170- refund. I persisted, asked to talk to someone else, she went away for a long time and came back and still said no. Then I mentioned others being able to have the refund and doesn’t seem fair (my renew date is 25th October) and she went away again.
Came back with the ok to refund the $170-
Closed my card over the phone, only 2k rewards points so no real loss.
Just have to call back after 25th to get the $170-sent to another account.
I made sure they had all this information on file so when i call up later on they know what’s going on.
Hope you get yours back

my annual fee is due in feb, can i book my flight for july next year then cancel the card before feb and still use the flight?

Cancelled the card today. Operator come back and said they'll waive the $170 but keep the $55 fee (with no Flight or Virgin lounge passes). I said that is no good so she went to have another talk (tbh, my ask was no fee at all). Perhaps conveniently I was hung up on before card was cancelled or her return.

Called again and this time they only offered a $130 reduction. I said that was no good and in any case I was offered $170 a few minutes earlier. The operator said that could never happen and I said it did. Was clearly wasting my time so closed it without any further delay.

I’ll be keeping this card for now. I was about to cancel and apply for a Bankwest Zero Platinum but then released I spent enough last year for a $100 gift card, which almost covers the $120 annual fee. If I already had another no forex fee card, I’d cancel. I just don’t want a hit to my credit score. It would have been great if they could have made the annual fee lower though, considering the benefits lost since this card was launched. No companion Amex, flight and lounge passes removed.

Never had this card but looking at the previous features man it was great while it lasted. Looking at the no forex cards only ones in the market atm with QF/VA points is the:
- Bankwest Platinum/World
- Coles MC
- Commbank Ultimate MC

hmm the Coles MC looks great but that will be slightly devalued. Commbank Ultimate MC wouldn't be so bad if reaching $2500 per month wasn't so hard sometimes. These don't have free flight vouchers so looking for the next best thing. The new interchange rates not making it easy for Australian CC providers the past year or so.

Well I'll chip in - I'm going to keep my card - not happy about the 'devaluation' but once international travel starts again perhaps ANZ will add a free flight or other benefit. In fact the free flight was not the main reason I selected this card. I've yet to use my credit from my cancelled VA flight back in June or booked this year's free flight (but I still have till the end of Nov of course).

A "loss" of $100 or so is pretty minor in the overall scheme of the losses I've suffered due to CV - from cancelled travel arrangements and the (very) long delays in getting refunds and/or credits I may never be able to use.

I’m thinking the same. I had this card as my only non-churner so as a long term hold I’ve put most of our white goods and big purchases on it so there’s a whole lot of extended warranties to think about too.
probably worth another $150 and see what happens in the next 12 months...

I am hoping that with Westpac and NAB both added a no foreign transaction fee card to their line up that we might start seeing more of them in general.

You're probably right, so when things open up again and the card returns to it's former glory, then I'll jump back in having served my 12 months and get a nice stash of bonus sign on points!! :) :) :)

So I had a reportable item on my Credit Savvy file and I looked in and it showed that the ANZ rewards card has just been closed.....accompanied by a 50 point drop in my credit rating. I had held the card a day short of 2 years.

I’ve decided to keep card after booking 2021 return flight Syd to Perth worth $560 or so, and will book same for better half in afew days once $225 annual fee rolls over. Happy with that, as long as flights actually possible next year. Does anyone know if the flights can be upgraded with VFF points? T class fare it seems.

When Mrs 2905 and I used our respective cards for a SYD-PER return flight around this time last year, it was possible to upgrade with points, but lousy value. The number of points required was almost the same as a J reward redemption.

We've recently booked SYD-PER return again, as far into the future as was possible (Sep 2021), and hopefully by then the WA border will be open (and VA2 / TT2 still in business).

Given there's less than a month left to book the complimentary flight, what is everyone going to do with the flight?

I called and they said there's no change fee for change of destination or dates, so I am tempted to book a flight to the most expensive destination (PER or DRW) in January and reschedule and change destination closer to time, with the added benefit of not being bound by the 60 day restriction.

I was considering doing the same, but am very unsure about travel to WA in the next year or 2 so instead will probably go with BNE-HBA as something a bit more realistic.

They’ve been telling everyone else that a fee is charged for change of destination. I wonder if the policy has changed given the border changes are complicating matters.

I had the card and closed and booked a flight in the future without any surety. I was told of a $133 change fee for date or destination. Either you (or I) was told dud information or the policy has changed.

Changed my plan and cancelled card, after being told flight could only be booked for cardholder, not spouse. Can’t see why it would be so restrictive, but annual fee no longer justified on that basis.

Sadly that has always been a restriction. As mentioned above I booked a flight just at the end of my anniversary and if I had have been able to do the spouse thing, I would have rolled into the next year and straight away booked a 2nd identical ticket for my wife which along with reduced perks would have been worth the fee.
