My experience was the same as the above. I called up ANZ and asked for my annual fee to be reviewed prior to transitioning to another ANZ card. The person on the phone was very helpful and essentially said they would refund the $170 part of the travel rewards annual fee no questions asked, despite my review date being way back in October. I was happy enough with this and didn't push for the $55 rewards bit of the fee. Apparently the $55 will be taken forward and used for the annual fee on the new card anyway so not the end of the world.
I really didn't get any value out of the card since October last year, other than the points earn, but at least this outcome minimises my current expenditure as much as possible right now which I'm happy with. I'm not in a situation to be planning any domestic trips at the moment sadly.
