Finally, after 27 weeks. All money refunded from a Qantas domestic revenue return booked on Qantas.com.au and paid by BPay. Not exactly a complicated booking.

After 5 months of Qantas continually refusing to respond to or act on my email, postal and telephone correspondence (including a formal complaint) I lodged a dispute with NSW Fair Trading. 3 days later I have my points and taxes refunded.

I should have acted this way sooner it seems rather than wasting 10+ hours of my time. The lies and deliberate obfuscation from Qantas were astounding.

It seems very clear that ringing at 12 weeks brings an immediate refund.
This isn't correct. More than 20 weeks for me and I only got the refund then because of the intervention by Fair Trading.

And the over arching survey for this thread indicates that for Qantas took MORE than 12 weeks to refund for 47% of people.

Seems Qantas will get away with whatever they can.

I am now at 14 weeks. I was told to call back at 12 weeks but have been busy. I don’t have the energy to call again (operator was not pleasant) so might go straight to Amex.

Took about 2 mins to fill out the online form from Fair Trading. Got 2 email updates from Fair Trading then notification from Qantas of the refund being processed.

I rang again today (first call early August). Was promised it is being processed and should be returned soon.

My refund came almost 6 months after the cancellation. Glad I didn't have to go down the path of flight credits.

How long will you give them?
You've been kind enough to AJ for long enough.
I'm sure the time for your interest-free loan to Q is over. Otherwise you run the risk of things coming to a head about Q's parlous state - and ending up an unsecured creditor.

Time is all relative. Christmas will be here soon too. As I found out years ago from the time I contacted the Q Company secretary to it being processed by JQ was under 90 minutes.

Jetstar 2009 refund.jpg

And this was for supposedly 'non-refundable' JQ tickets where they kept changing the departure time for both flights. Q Company Secretary (Chief legal officer) agreed JQ was in breach of legislation & their procedures manual would be corrected. I'd already got JQ to cave but when they said it would be (an excessive amount of time to process) I looked up the Q Co Sec contact details and rang directly.

I was off the phone with him a little after 1pm after an extensive conversation. Time stamp on the above note < 90minutes later. Refund in CC when I checked the following morning. I always wondered how many degrees of freedom between Co Sec and whoever processed the refund. Never fun for senior execs to get told off by the Co Sec... 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

I just felt so bad...... N O T

So I lodged a dispute with Amex. Already sorted and credited to my account. Sweet.

6 months for my big $5000 INT flight and today nearly 9 months for a few domestic ones.

Rang once to get them refunded when it was obvious no trip was going to happen.
Used the ringback service so didnt wait on hold...took about 1 hour (Gold) and then all sorted.

I wasnt stressing on the few DOM ones as I could use them up sometime next year...I hope!

I'm very pleased with Qantas. Sorry.
3 award bookings cancelled in the last 2 weeks, separately. Points come back in a few days and some of the "fees" have come back already. Waiting on the ph doing the first cancellation was a pain (I called after hours), but then got the call back service for others ...even spoke to an Aussie! Would be better if it could be done online though.
And I love the new flexibility, changed online a J award bne-syd flight for later this month, just on a whim

I have had a couple Qatar award points (via Qantas) and money refunded within two weeks in recent weeks. But Qantas awards on Qantas/Jetstar planes are the ones taking so long.

Ok I might be slightly cynical, but who are you related to? ;)

Ha ha, DYKWIA
No really I'm no one special. It's getting very weird, I just checked my amex card and it shows a qfa credit (ie the taxes) for the booking I cancelled on Thursday night. Clearly a glitch!
