Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

To be fair to SA, QLD and WA, they all ask if the person has been overseas in the last 14 days as part of their border passes. I don't buy the headlines such as "snuck into Perth". It was reported they had G2G passes (otherwise they would have been sent back to Sydney).

This whole thing is ridiculous and I can't believe how much air time it's been getting.

Federal government should have just said Kiwis don't need to quarantine. End of. States don't get a vote.
And this is taken from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.

Travelling to Victoria from New Zealand

A trans-Tasman travel bubble is currently in place between New Zealand and parts of Australia. This allows travellers from New Zealand to arrive in New South Wales and the Northern Territory without having to quarantine for 14 days on arrival.

Currently the Victorian borders are open. If you are travelling from New Zealand and have passed all relevant immigration and biosecurity requirements as established by the Federal Government, New South Wales Government and Northern Territory Government, then you are able to travel to Victoria. You do not need to quarantine for 14 days on arrival in Victoria.

If you have travelled from New Zealand and you have symptoms associated to coronavirus (COVID-19) you should not travel to Victoria. If you do you may be subject to detention under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 on your arrival.

You will be subject to the relevant health directions and restrictions in place during your stay in Victoria and may be subject to heavy penalties should you breach those.

So how can the Vic.Premier say they didn't know this could happen?

The webpage is dated today, so I’m not certain whether it was Vic DHHS’s position a few days ago when this became the next clickbait.

Anyway it sounds like perhaps the Vic CHO missed the first few minutes of the meeting as he was late and perhaps no one brief the Vic Premier (so the traditional plausible deniability).

And so the revelations continue and the story keeps evolving....

IIRC correctly the Victorian CHO said he was missing for the beginning part of the meeting but his deputy was present throughout. This was at yesterday’s presser during questions.

I can't see a date on the page. And if you go to the links for Melbourne and Regional Victoria restrictions they give the situation at the end of September.Surely if that section on NZ arrivals were just added today the would have yesterday's steps linked.
besides at the meeting others who took part have said the Victorian CHO and one of his deputies were present for all of the meeting.Plus he was sent an email about the decisions.

Terrible outbreak of amnesia in Victoria at the moment.

Can we have some supporting evidence rather than an opinion?

The date is at the bottom of the page - below the feedback Was this page useful? Thumb up yes and thumb down no.

As all pages of this type (amalgamation/ consolidations) things don’t get updated consistently. For example on this page, some don’t even answer the question:

What if I am just transiting through Victoria for an international flight?
If you arrive into Australia from overseas, you are required to complete the 14-day mandatory quarantine in the location in which you arrive in Australia. When you have completed quarantine, you may continue your journey within Australia.

States and territories have individual quarantine arrangements in place, and some may require a second 14-day quarantine period for travellers coming from Victoria. Completing the 14-days of mandatory quarantine does not mean you will be exempt from quarantine requirements in the state or territory you are travelling to. For the latest information visit the State and territory border closures page on the Australian Interstate Quarantine website.

And even though it’s mainly about mandatory international quarantine, there is little indication that it’s currently suspended in Victoria. But of course, it would be relevant when it starts up again.

Also I noticed previously that the Roadmap was not promptly updated (an example I recall was when the curfew was changed by an hour, but not reflected in the roadmap for some days.)

I do wonder whether there is a target on some Vic DHHS staff so they can be moved along as some recent revelations have made the Government slightly uncomfortable.

Edit: for me the links you refer to have information on Melbourne and Regional Victoria restrictions from 11:59pm 18/10.

On the late news last night it was reported that the CHO and his deputy from Victoria were at a second meeting the next day on the NZ travel bubble. As well the head of Border Force said that the ABF had discussed the workings of the travel bubble with Victorian officials.

What a revelation how exciting....

Well good news for Tasmanians with the premiers announcement they would be opening to NSW from November 2 as long as things ‘stay the same as now’ - so their CHO is against the 28 day no community transmission hurdle designed by QLD which is great news for families looking to reunite and Tasmania’s tourism industry. NSW is their second biggest market after VIC.

So Tassie is prepared to accept a low level of transmission and the chance of it being imported as well and must also finally be more confident in their ability to manage any outbreaks that inevitably pop up.

This is good news as their Premier had it as one of his key criteria to be able to open borders, so Tassies department of health finally gets the ‘ready’ tick. This will also put even more pressure and drive more questions to QLD and WA on why they aren’t ready, if Tassie can be....

Can we have supporting evidence for both possibilities that don't rely on memories and missing meetings?

And this - how could this happen? 😔

"More than 200 people who underwent hotel quarantine in Victoria have been urged to go get tested for HIV and other viruses after a testing stuff up resulted in possible cross-contamination.

Safer Care Victoria announced yesterday that 243 people who underwent blood glucose level tests while in hotel quarantine between March 29 and August 20 could be at risk of contracting a blood borne virus after the same test was used on multiple people.
“Blood glucose level testing devices intended for use by one person were used across multiple residents,” Safer Care Victoria said in a statement."

2 new cases in Vic.

Mystery cases down by 2. So 1 must have reclassified as was only due to go down by 1.

Metro 14 Day Av = 6.4 (-0.8)
Metro Unknown = 13 (-2)
Regional 14 Day Av = 0.5

I'm not exactly sure what the go is here.... hospitals reuse blood glucose meters with multiple patients every single day all across Australia. That is the standard of care. Lancets (mostly) and strips (the things you stick in the meter with blood) are obviously single use - and they were in this case too.

Is it just because it happened in a quarantine situation and they passed the meter to the patient and are worried about them touching it and getting something from the touch of the meter, where in hospital the patient wouldn't normally touch the meter?? If so the risk is microscopically low....

The BGL thing sounds like a beat up, those machines are always reused on multiple patients. As long as the lancet is changed obviously.

And the DHHS website was updated after the Kiwis had arrived and the VIC government realised they weren't going to be able to stop them. So no big conspiracy there either.

Agree-would only make sense if they were reusing lancets. Cant see how one would catch a blood-borne virus off a glucometer

Maybe a kick a Vic thread could be started as some posts are more about that than following progress.

Im kicking the SA Govt on here right now so I just kick where I see numpty decision making. And I've kicked the SA Govt throughout this thread. And also praised them. Take the good with the bad.

The article I read said they were single use kits and perhaps they are different to those used in other clinical settings. And if there was no risk then I don't see why they are contacting those people if they haven't already been contacted. 🤷‍♀️

Tas health Minister on ABC radio this morning - quite a close grilling ( as usual from the host). Seemed to have the answers. Let’s hope so - The Tas health system isn’t the best resourced or organised. Always comically EDIT chronically!! under- staffed.

Explicitly stated that they were OK to run with a couple of cases on-going ( if it happens; obviously not wanted).

There is no such thing as a single use blood glucose meter.... but anyways why stop facts ruining a great headling - probably a murdoch article ;)

Agree - I thought the Tassie health reps actually did really well. Priming everyone to expect cases and they won't be shutting the borders when they import a few cases, going through their preparedness was quite impressive and a little surprising for Tassie but good on them.

I see that CDC suggest using single use finger stick devices to avoid cross contamination. Maybe that's what they used.
