General Parenting Discussion

You talking about modern cloth nappies? Ms FM is using them in the day time as well and disposables at night. She tried the eco original nappies (which are also disposables but fully degradable), but unfortunately they didn’t work for her. Tended to leak but then Bub was very tiny. She is using Rascal & friend for the night time disposable.

I have to change a mcn but they do seem way easier than the triangle with pins :)
Sorry, a bit TMI for me!

Ah yes. But they are eco friendly non?

Sorry, a bit TMI for me!
Get outta this thread then! 😂

Am a bit over parenting at the moment. Teenage years and neurodiverse kid! Arrgghh!

I cannot seem to find a way to encourage her and teach her how to revise. We got some improvements to habits with working at home and school at home. But she is insisting that revision is unnecessary and she “did that in class already“ or “I know it”. Unfortunately the three or four C- on the Semester 1 report card would suggest otherwise. 😭

Just wondering if I have missed something in this thread. I have scrolled back through a couple of pages and all I can see is nappie advice, how does one deal with a MissM, a teenage girl that now I am having to deal with who only likes designer clobber. MrsM is also a spending fan so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

What am I doing wrong

Lol I shouldn't comment late at night

oh yes very environmentally friendly. The eco ones Mrsterryn was talking about though were the disposable ones Ms FM tried. I still think they sound great as a disposable but unfortunately just didn’t work for her.

But what’s it got to do with travel?
Nothing - that’s why its called “general parenting discussion”

Nothing makes the teenage years easy - they do grow up though.

I can remember at the end of year 10, Master FM very seriously telling me that he understood year 11 and 12 mattered and that he would be working hard in future.

I said to Mr FM - finally some maturity is coming through - then I got his year 10 report which was truly abysmal - Cs would have been a good result!

However he did stick to his promises - enough to get a scholarship to ANU two years later, so there is hope.

Not doing anything wrong - it just depends on what her friends like. They are very tribal at that age. We live in a very materialistic society so perhaps try to give her info on what is happening in other parts of the world. Maybe even get her involved in having a child she sponsors or something? At the end of the day though if she feels different to her friends that is very hard for her - it has to be a gradual learning curve. I like nice clothes myself.....

Seems that the role modelling has already been embedded. You may like to try the reverse psychology approach and talk about environmental responsibility, recycling, and how many resources are spent on designer clobber? Maybe do some research into who makes those clothes ie poorly paid people from developing nations? Let her know they aren't made in Europe? But then you might get the travel kick back, if that ever returns, that flying is also environmentally damaging.

Are you worried about the money spent and if that's a valid concern for you? Try work out why you are worried and go from there.

So if the world opens for us , how old have (grand ) children been for travelling to Europe for Xmas markets ?
Pondering Dec 2022 oh husband of course I mean Dec 2023
(Darn forgot husband is on here as well )

Early November had our 2nd child.
First one is 4yo (kindy in Feb), finally sent him back to childcare after the newborn was 3wks old and end of first week he was sick with a bad virus. He recovered on day 5 and gave it to both of us parents.

Felt very much like covid, but all our tests came back negative.

Fever, cough, runny nose, lost our taste and smell. Took us 2wks to recover. Grr

Luckily the newborn was fine throughout as wife and him stayed locked up in the master bedroom most of the time keeping away from us 2.

Now too scared to send him back to childcare for all of Jan. Think we'll just keep him home and start kindy in Feb

Worried about who will look after the kids if we actually catch covid 😜 going to kindy and me going back to the office will increase our risk level

Welcome to the joys of childcare kids.
You worried about Covid?. You will get inoculated with all sorts of other nasties over the next few years.

Kindy is not necessarily better.

Just get vaccinated and “soldier on” as the ad says.

We are but the newborn is who we are worried about

Sorry did not realise you had another question...

Lots of parents have newborns with older siblings at daycare and they all go through the same anxiety with sick daycare kids bringing home the lurgies and there is a newborn at home.

Rather than me rehashing the general advice, look here, and speak to your local early childhood nurse.

I assume both of you are CovidJab2 prior to the birth?
If so then mother would have transferred anti-Covid antibodies to the baby via the umbilical cord.

There is anti-Covid antibodies in breast milk, but generally anti-Covid antibodies in breast milk are of the IgA type and gets deposited onto the mouth and partly the nose. The extent to which these antibodies protect against Covid is unknown.

How does the infant get breast milk IgaA antibodies in the nose - as you will know by now they reflux and vomit - so a lot of what they swallow ends up in their nose!:p

Enjoy your newborn!!
