Allegedly JY rules.

I guess he isn't a friend of a footballer, and hasn't been in a movie yet.
There really needs to be an appropriate icon for a response to this situation. Here are a couple maybe

I can only but guess that someone has determined that you won't get covid cases in a hospital if no-one is allowed to visit. (oh, aside from '000s hospital staff and contractors of all flavours going in and out every day and mixing in the community)

My observations have been that in both Nursing Homes and Hospitals, there hasnt been any infection brought in by a visitor. Just the staff. Or patients.

Seeing this is the election thread where my posts were moved to ;) , I was on a phone call earlier today to FNQ. I had to discretely change the subject as the tirade of angry emotion coming down the line over the CMO and the Premier was a bit overwhelming.

From this very small sample, I got the impression that AP (&JY) doesn't currently have too many friendlies up there for the upcoming election.

I have no idea about the SEQ corner as haven't chatted with friends there for quite some time.

As a Queenslander, I have partial agreement with border closures to leisure travellers in Vic NSW and ACT. I have no agreement with the way AFL and movie stars are being given special treatment. I am embarrassed and devastated about how humanitarian cases eg funerals are being dealt with,

SEQ has other industries whereas FNQ is almost wholly dependent on tourism - so i expect there may be some differences in sentiment as the impact is less severe in some areas.

This guy should set up a go fund me, he’d be able to keep that plane in the air 24/7 protesting her politicising border closures!

But I think it’s really good for people in other states to see in such a visual way that Anna/Dr Young and the QLD government do not reflect us all up here and there is an increasing movement against her.

As a sometimes SEQ resident and voter, I have NO support for the current qld border closures as I believe that qld Health's definition of a hotspot is flawed and political (and I recall the political controversy over Young's selection as CHO!). However (getting back to topic) I fear AP tactic of creating fear and then she is the one "keeping qld'landers safe" will work at the election. Voters will get what they deserve, a trashed economy and skyrocketing gov charges.

Spot on. Examples everywhere. A favoured tactic by many many - ones that immediately sprang to mind - Howard, Trump
In Trump's case, the "fear" is probably accurate given all the carp that is going down in the USA at the moment.

That’s a tried and true tactic of many politicians.

Anna definitely isn’t alone here that’s for sure but she’s working it verrry hard... however it may well blow up in her face.

Because I have a theory certainly up here that people are actually less fearful of the actual virus itself - they’ve now seen we are no ‘Europe’ in terms of mortality rates and have rationalised and processed the risk more now.

I think people are now more fearful of what the government’s reaction will be to the virus and how that will impact them. And that includes the border restrictions now.

The single and only reason they aren’t more scared about that right now is that we are being propped up by the federal government.

Once that evaporates we are kaput if this is still going on.

And there may (hopefully) be the 'shy pollster' effect. That is, when asked, some people reply with 'the right thing' - support the Premier in a time of crisis, keep health controls tight etc etc, but in the secrecy of a polling booth out comes the baseball bat and their real intentions.

Hmmmm hopefully but honestly she and Young have whipped everyone up into such a state of panic and fear I honestly think she will still get back in, it will take a while to unravel - but we are definitely starting to see the beginning of the end...

Given that there are seven weeks until the election, how would it perceived if the border was opened to NSW and ACT in 2 - 3 weeks? Would AP be perceived as weak and caving into pressure, or would it simply be welcomed and the next stage in fighting the pandemic?

I'm no expert on QLD or elections by any stretch of anyone's imagination, but I'm pondering the fact that QLD is a little different than most states in that there is a long string of reasonably sized population centres all the way up the coast to Cairns ('000s km away) and a lot of those people don't think the same way as urbaners and largely have not experienced covid (little to no infections/deaths) other than the pain of no tourists and no jobs.

Literally every day there are more and more tragic cases of people dying, people missing that last moment with loved ones, unable to see terminally ill sick kids, the lists goes on - because of these border restrictions. Thats before you even get to the economic impact.

This is all over our local news bulletins now and I think people up here are beginning to feel a bit dirty about it....

At the moment I would argue that she looks spineless and weak right now anyway. It’s never seems to be her decision it’s always someone else’s...

According to her she’s apparently being bossed around by Dr Young - who is making all these horrible decisions, not her.

So if she took some ownership back and showed some leadership now in working with the other premiers and Feds on this issue that is spiralling our of control, it might actually make her look stronger, more compassionate...

But she may have to fire Dr Young first if Dr Young is *truly* the one bossing Anna around.... which I honestly don’t really believe...

I’m in Brissy so perhaps more progressive but we have branches in Cairns. Basically Cairns might as well be in lockdown, there is no one there, even for this time of year. Period. It’s probably one of the most reliant regional areas on tourism and they are deserted. Intrastate tourism is basically an emergency IV line.

So yes no virus and not much else either :( No balance.
