It seems the word 'bullying' has been loosely applied. It's like in the office that if you disagree with someone's opinions on a number of occasions, then you are called a bully.

Exactly, I live in QLD too, never really been moved by state politics because they are just so meaningless usually but with all this border power now in her hands I’ve honestly never been so utterly disgusted with a political ‘leader’ in my life.

She is milking this dry to get herself back into power and whatever spin or special favour is required is duly helped along by Dr Young’s ‘decisions, special treatment, exemptions’ ..... - there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with that relationship and murmurs are getting louder every day.

I watch the news from other places and QLD is the laughing stock of Australia I feel deeply embarrassed daily at who is leading this state. Literally every day she is crushing someone vulnerable without batting an eyelid to get re-elected, a grandma with brain tumors, a mum whose baby passed away because of her borders, a father with a kid with cancer... it’s awful.

It is just such a vile situation. I just wish she would win (hopefully become less political as a result), grow a brain and a heart and start working collaboratively with the other two (at least!) and the Feds - together.

Thats me swallowing razor blades as I type that but was just being realistic... however with 3 (4 now?) ministerial resignations and this ongoing border disaster blowing up in her face... we can hope.

Another poster mentioned that this behaviour is going to mark her now forever though and I agree, even if she wins again she will be carrying this black mark probably for the rest of her career....

As a QLDer I'm disgusted in how they are treating anyone who is not a QLDer. I saw one mother refer to the way AP and Dr Y are treating. Then as xenophobia. Seems pretty accurate to me. Her kid couldn't come home from boarding school for holidays as to return he would have to quarantine on his own in a hotel. And they live 10km outside the bubble. With no active cases.

I believe the boarding school kids who live in NSW will not have to quarantine after coming back to school after Sept hols at home. I believe the principal at Fairholme in Toowoomba was a key person rallying support to get the CHO to make this ruling.

A Queensland resident who flew home to visit her dying father was too late to say goodbye and is now locked in hotel quarantine on the day of his funeral.

My step-brother flew in from Wellington, NZ two weeks' ago; he arrived two days before his father's funeral. He tried for, but did not receive an exemption to attend his father's services. None of my step-fathers children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren were in attendance, as they basically all live in New Zealand, and the cost of quarantining would not be financially possible. That particular step-brother is executor, so he wanted to come over anyway to work on his father's estate.

I only mention this from a perspective of consistency - other people arriving into Qld from places with zero cases have had to attend their parent's funeral from a quarantine hotel, via the streaming link.
I'm very grateful that my step-father passed away in August and not April/May, as the numbers allowed at a funeral would have been many fewer, and I'm not sure how quickly the funeral directors were able to get streaming for services working.

I am not upset by my step-brother not being allowed to attend his father's funeral - I am more relieved that given his father's extremely rapid decline (in a number of hours), my mother got to the hospital and was able to make sure step-Dad talked to almost all of his kids before he passed.

At the very least everyone should be entitled (with appropriate precautions) to attend your own parents funeral. My guesstimate, for 90% of Australians in that age bracket where parents are dying, that would mean at most a spouse plus 1-4 offspring. That is not a large group and not unmanageable.

Agree completely. You get one chance to farewell your parent. One chance. And knowing how they value their trade, funeral directors are quite able to manage this process safely.

And obviously the same applies for spouse and child.

The Qld CHO stated could not provide exemptions for VIC, ACT and NSW residents to attend funerals without 14 days quarantine as high risk, due to fact that 100 people are allowed to attend funerals in Qld - meaning it could spawn a huge outbreak. But surely the common sense approach when there is a request for immediate family (parent, child, sibling, spouse - not third cousins twice removed) to attend a funeral, they could revoke the 100 person limit and restrict attendance to immediate family only, thereby reducing the risk. Given they were able to escort a person from hotel to a viewing of the body, why not allow the person to mask up and attend the funeral before being escorted back to the hotel?

They make exemptions for Priest/Rabbis/Muftis to attend Covid patients in hospital to give last rights (which is far less important than allowing a child/spouse/parent in to see their loved one before they pass), the inconsistencies are baffling! And AP is hiding behind the incredibly disliked JY instead of being a human.

If AFL and Celebrities can submit an alternative plan to show how they will minimise risk, then Joe public ought to be afforded the same rights and consideration. There are supposedly 80 people employed by AP and JY to process exemptions, so they should have to prioritise compassionate requests and be required to respond in 48 hours, not 20 days many are waiting by which time it is too late.

I've just caught up on this new thread and found myself constantly selecting the agree response to so many sensible, practical, reasonable and humane suggestions for how exemptions could be managed. If we AFFers can come up with so many good ideas, I just don't know why on earth the people actually responsible for the border controls (with power to make things happen) cannot. Another thing that just adds to my general feeling of despondency in relation to all things COVID at the moment.

A tale from friend of a friend who lives in rural QLD, where they has never been a case. His mother had an aneurysm and was taken to regional hospital where they decided to then fly her to Brisbane for care.

He flew to Brisbane and has isolated in a hotel. Has had a covid test and is negative (OBVIOUSLY) and been advised by the Brisbane Hospital that no matter the circumstances he will not see her again unless she is discharged or leaves in a box, full stop, no discussion will be entered into.

An utter disgrace.
