Qantas 747 Memorabilia Auction

I got a call last week from Qantas advisory panel asking if I'd be interested in buying a 747 service cart and how much I think it would be worth. They were also thinking of selling the carts with champagne, amenity kits, pajama, etc included inside.
Good on them to think outside the box.

Colour me interested, assuming they allow participation from the other side of the ditch.

How much did you say?

They can be very expensive. Some on ebay are regularly $1000+

I said I would expect 1k to 2k, but it seems they were also trying to find out. She mentioned LH 747 carts going for 2k+ online.

Interesting dilemma, if the economy is as bad as some make out, finding buyers at $1K-$2K may be an issue.

Anyway, it will be a fun sale/auction! Looking forward to it.

All depends on how many they have - too much supply and the price goes down.

Wonder what the cost price of the carts is?

It will be interesting to see what items are on their catalogue for these auctions.
Interstate buyers need to factor freight into the equation. This can be quite expensive for the bulkier items.

I bought a jet airways one a few months ago on eBay and didn’t spend that much. The problem is what do you do with them. I also have a KLM one but no photos with me. (Other half was not impressed. Apparently they are ugly)

They seam to be easier to find in the USA. But then it’s the shipping.

Nice looking cart!

I use mine in the garage, allows multi-layer storage and you can just wheel out the cart in front to get the the stuff you need behind.

Have seen some nice ones where people have made them into mini bars and things for parties.

There were fully stocked 747 bar carts available on the Qantas wine store... I was too slow and missed it :(

That's pretty cool! And a very reasonable price for the cart alone!

Did you get your hands on the wine, though?
The version I got was un-stocked and a much better deal (just went through my emails and the cart cost me $150), unless your thing is mini-bottles of red and white :p in which case you can buy them separately, you know. It wasn't bought from a store/Qantas Wine – instead my name was on a list that went to a lucky dip and I feel a lot of staff also had their name on the list. When I finally picked up my cart from BNE there were VA FA's picking up a half cart at the same time.

Got the email this morning and saw the instagram story that they're on sale again. I would have been tempted for a half cart had I not got lucky in July with the purchase I made then.

The big thing to remember though is that the carts are used and it appears Qantas made no effort then – so probably wouldn't now – to give them a little clean before sending them out. Lots of removing old sticky tape, removing grease and smudges, buffing the metal to a nice shine to want to keep it anywhere in your living spaces ;) never going to get rid of all the scratches, and that's probably a good thing too, it shows that it was used... but you also don't want one looking terrible!
