Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Lifeline calls in Victoria went up 22% when the second lockdown started.

Wonder what it is like now.

I have seen a lot of airtime on this, and don't have any reason not to believe it as the last week has again been a bit of a struggle personally.

However, I did note a comment in Sutton's presentation yesterday re the death rate stats.

While stress levels are definitely up and use of those services significantly increased, the death rate in Victoria so far this year is an unexplained (as yet) way lower figure on previous years.

Perhaps we are seeing an aberration of the increased services being provided in anticipation of problems, increased media attention and the availability of less confronting tele-health consultations resulting in increased usage resulting in better outcomes.

Similar to the so-called "unsolvable" homeless persons problem that has been around and growing rather alarmingly in recent years was "solved" (albeit temporarily) within a couple of weeks. Around the CBD we have gone from someone on every 2nd-3rd street corner to me seeing one only in the last 2 weeks [temporarily housed in hotels rooms by the government].

Well, well, well. LOL. This just proves HCQ is useless if this unscientifically literate politician supports it as in this rant.

Well maybe that solves a problem. We can change "Karen" to "Craig" from now on ;)

He is such a Wally - anyone remember how he let himself be setup by Piers Morgan during the bushfires :) :)

Off topic but It’s amazing irrational “politicians” such as this are still on our public purse, despite the local branch wanting to replace him only to be overridden by the current PM. But then the electorate got what they voted for.

Craig should know about putting people in gaol, he is :

Chair of Parliamentary Joint Committee on Law Enforcement, Liberal Party of Australia. 😆

Flu almost non-existent
Pneumonia hospitalisations halved
Suicide reportedly down, although mental health contacts up
At a guess traffic deaths down

At a guess traffic deaths down

Down 22.8% vs 2019, but still 12% higher than the same period in 2018. Huge reduction in 18-20 age group (4 vs 14 in 2019), but huge increase in 30-39 age group (31 vs 18 last year)

I actually started my professional career in road safety. With the road toll, the trend over time is less deaths per year, and this is despite the significant growth in traffic.. But also the stats will bounce around somewhat from year to to year. ie Last year was probably a bounce up.

That is not to say that this year that Covid 19 might not have reduced the road toll, but rather that you cannot just compare it to the last year or two.

1970 was the peak year of lives lost.. Compulsory seat belts came in during 1971 and the toll (lives lost)had its first major drop. RBT came in not long after and then a steady stream of improvements and measures. Safer vehicles (air bags, crash rating, child car seats etc) and safer roads ( many many design, road design changes from "Staggered T" to roundabouts to road friction to crash barriers to better controls (speed zones, school zones, speed and read light camera, radar guns etc). I am sure you will have noted how the wire rope barriers are so common today). Improved trauma care and response will have assisted as well

On the con side while alcohol was better controlled, drug usage has become more common and not just drugs of the illegal kind.

Still not hard enough restrictions IMO but Dan has got to look after his Union mates
So I take it you are dancing a jig tonight that some of Dan's pesky "union mates" are now wondering how they are going to pay the rent? And of course those non-union workers who are now out of a job too must just be collateral damage.

Wasn’t that how Perisher ski resort was found to have positive cases?
I believe the tests shows antibodies. So it could be someone in Perisher who is currently afflicted, or had previously had COVID but was now clear.

Does anyone have the numbers or what percentage of workers are anticipated to be affected by Stage 4? As well as number of workers initially and how many affected up to Stage 3.

It would be an interesting macro exercise to see what it took to crush community transmission in Melbourne.

Reported to be a further 250,000 on top of those affected by stage 3.

Of course I’m not happy about the non union folk losing their jobs.
Unfortunately Dan’s mistakes have led to this mess and many innocent people will pay the price

We've come a long way with the roads and the cars. Not so much with the drivers...

Wonder how much the taxpayer paid to support the Federal Govt’s Clive Palmer attempt to break down the WA border.

Thing is, when there is a constitutional question, the court asks all the governments (state etc) if they wish to express opinions. It's not all that unusual...

ABC is reporting it as 250,000 previously out of work, plus another 250,000 now and 500,000 wfh.

Good Q&A tonight with medical experts.
They are all screaming for NSW to go harder now now now.

Yes they did certainly voice their opinions openly on the support of Palmer, but seem to have changed their mind for some reason now. So perhaps a bit more than just a constitutional question.
