Oh for a $1 for every time I have heard or seen that or an equivalent statement. Absolutely true for some people totally erroneous for many more.

Yep, as I stated in the 'Housing affordability' thread, all (4) of my nieces and nephews have bought or built a house, none in well paying jobs (think teacher, sales, baker, prison guard).

Oh for a $1 every time I have heard someone who knows people who have 'made it' in the property market; there are many who haven't Why should you need a mindset and a focus on goals and a determination to buy a house? It should be an option for everyone.

No, not everyone gets the option to enter the property market, such as the unemployed.

Why a mindset, goals and determination? Well, I'm sorry to be old-fashioned but the best things in life need to be worked for - lovely if just dropped into everyone's lap, but a bit of discipline never hurt. A spendthrift drinker shouldn't be on the same footing as a hard worker and saver.

I have just observed Ms FM’s friends over the years. None would have particularly high flying jobs, but some put their heads down and scratched up a deposit and have gone into little starter units, planning to work their way up (which is exactly what I did as a migrant to Australia in 1977 - bought a little one bedroom in Werrington which was nearly in the Blue Mountains and commuted to work in Wynyard every day.). Others are enjoying life and blowing everything they earn. Not knocking that choice - life can be short. However it is a choice and you can’t have everything....

Maybe getting a bit off the point of the Threat here but my son has no interest in real estate. Has travelled before, during and after university and seems happy to live frugally while waiting for the jobs to become available as the situation improves. I think those between 20-35 will have more limited opportunities over the next decade but I would still rather look for a job here than in the States. It looks a mess, especially if you loose your job and hence, often, your medical coverage.

And Biden might not get all of the Sanders supporters to vote for him.

Many think Biden was playing a reasonably smart move in keeping a low profile and let Trump lie, fumble, and bully his way into a loss in November while at the same time not also "mis-talking" (foot in mouth disease similar to "W") as Biden is prone to do from time to time.

However, he is in serious danger of being too low profile for a politician as the election comes closer. I think absentee voting registration becomes available from today in many (all?) states.

Putting aside the two "believer" contingents where it largely doesn't matter, a low profile and a lack of certainly of whether he is fit/strong enough to lead will not put him in good stead with the undecided.

And don't forget, with a voluntary voting system if people are undecided or aren't excited enough about a candidate, then they don't go out and vote at all - given you have to basically give up all of a Tuesday to vote. Which I think was reflected back in the previous election, when Saunders' supporters didn't go out and back Clinton. Same again?

Sour grapes, I think.

It's fascinating. Voluntary voting + first past the post --> Divisiveness and extreme views. Compulsory voting + preferential system -> Centrist views and debates about (relatively) trivial variations in policy.

It's fascinating.

Human behaviour generally is fascinating in itself (and uplifting and appalling and disturbing and unfathomable, and frightening and calming and everything in between).

One of the saddest things about the US system is that the political party in charge can basically decide that if a region will vote the 'wrong' way they will refuse to put a polling place in the region.

The ability to refuse to accept valid postal votes or even out of area votes seriously perverts the process.

More Joe Biden racism:

We bring social workers into homes of parents to help them deal with how to raise their children. It’s not that they don’t want to help, they don’t want — they don’t know quite what to do. Play the radio, make sure the television — excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night, the phone — make sure that kids hear words.

We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids

Biden even opposed desegregation efforts in the 1970s and was a friend and admirer of KKK leader Strom Thurmond.

And Biden might not get all of the Sanders supporters to vote for him.

that's like slashing the seats at the drive-in when you don't like the movie.

Is that the accepted definition of alien in most of the world, or the US definition of alien:🤣
Seriously though alien DNA seems to be only a minor part of what she believed. Some other beauties are that gynaecological problems are from having sex with demons and that the USA government is run by half human people (could be right there).

trump just likes the video because it pushes masks as unnecessary and Hydroxychlorquine as a cure :)

yes, the good Doctor could qualify for many awards or maybe just be committed to a ward.:D

Interesting that the various promoters of HCQ on AFF have gone silent. Maybe they will be reinvigorated with Alien energy?

Whatever happened to the theory that the US had been taken over by the lizards disguised as humans?
