TAP Air Portugal *A status match challenge

Ah, righto - well it's good that you didn't, given ineligibility on the membership... but without having purchased miles or a Club TAP subscription, you also wouldn't have been eligible, even as a new member:

Not to worry, either way - as I'm not sure the matched status will even be there by the time the INT flight shackles come off us!

Cheers,
Matt.

Yep true Matt. I was hoping for a status match as I do like the airline and have a few trips (hopefully) in the pipeline for next year and would have used TAP for quite a bit of the travel.

If you've not done it before, and want the *A Gold status for a period of time while over there (fingers crossed on that), then look into the challenge/match under United Airlines. Gives you 90 days of trial status with an equivalent *A Gold status in the MileagePlus program.

Thanks for that, I hadn't considered (or actually heard) of that option so I'll see how it can work for me. I'm probably being optimistic with my plans but definitely worth a shot! :)

The promo is back!

AA, Emirates and Qatar on eligible airline list. Nice opportunity for all those recently OWE Qatar matches from Virgin Straya (Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia)

Full details here:

I’m tempted to take up the match but not sure I’ll get much use out of it assuming it’s once in a lifetime and travel remains restricted until late next year.

It would be great except that it only applies to members who have joined Tap's Miles&Go after 1st january 2020. Unfortunately I've been a member since May 2019.

Thanks - I haven't had a time for a look - what's the minimum cost to action? It looks like around 120 euros for the club option, but I didn't stop to work out what 4000 miles (other alternative) would cost.

To answer my own question. - 99 euros for basic club option appears to be cheapest way to do it

Matched TAP Gold (*A Gold) status was extended for mine by an additional 12 months to 31 Mar 2022. The digital card had originally shown valid to 03/2022 on the front, but the details on the back of the card suggested it would drop to Silver or nothing status from 04/2021. Maybe I will get a chance to fly a segment on the match after all!

Cheers,
Matt.

That's goodness. I hadn't nominated anyone for the client gold... It's too hard to explain to most what it is; my mates would be totally confused about why I would even have, but let alone offer them frequent traveller status with a Portuguese airline in the middle of a pandemic! :D

My nominated Gold client lives in BKK and has been planning a Europe trip. Sure, the planning has moved around a bit and yet to finalise. Thai borders outbound remain closed for now.

I got the same e-mail... but found it also said this (my bolding). I guess it's possible that TAP IT let us slip through for being too hard to filter!:

*Only valid for clients that have achieved Gold or Silver Status based on Status Miles or Flight Segments. Clients that obtained their Status through other ways, such as TAP Miles&Go Club, Credit Card, Partner nomination, Status Match or others, are excluded from this special measure.

No - not unless they re-introduce it again after Alaskan joins OW, next year!
Really hoping they reinstate....

This offer is back for 2022 and continues to be available indefinitely, albeit with slightly different conditions to status match campaigns from previous years.

'' It’s not available to anyone that was already a member of the TAP Miles&Go frequent flyer program prior to January 2020. ''

Why?? Can someone please explain the logic? Surely they would still want to entice people with dormant free accounts to become regulars and pay for a subscription!!
I would be interested to test if there are ways around this - eg sign up with a new email...

And does anyone know what the logic is for not including Qantas or Virgin? Are they deemed too distant and unlikely to utilise TAP routes? What do you think is the likelihood of success in requesting a match to those, based on previous promotions?
