I’ve been keeping my eye out out on this for almost a year since they announced its development. It looks great!

There are 3 different pricing tiers with varying aircraft and airports/scenery. I just hope it runs smoothly on a PC like the official videos show (which I expect are Xbox based). X-plane 11 is nice but way to resource hungry to turn up all the eye candy.

The graphics and level of detail in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator game look incredible. Can't wait to try it out!

Now, if only it would run on a Mac...

I remember when you could play this in the late 90s/early 2000s by typing in some secret code in Excel.

I had the 1st version of flight simulator back in about 1993 ish. Used to play it on a computer not much better than a commodore 64. Visually it wasnt too bad but would like to try it now on a new computer

Just grab an Xbox One X! That's what I'll be running it on.

Will crashes be nerfed though? Always disappointing to try some extreme flight heroism and have the aircraft just bounce off the planet or a bland screen freeze.

Looks like that's a big chink of JobKeeper/JobSeeker heading over to Microsoft.

Will be interesting to see the scenarios they present this time.

I always failed at the 747 test flight taking the aircraft out of desert storage. After a few tries I was able to recover the aircraft from the required stalls but then fell short on returning to base when the engines were failing.

End of Sept will be the telling point, if your or an employer can keep it paying till Dec.
Probably some employers will be kicked off if they have bounced back that 30%.
Or the ATO finds out an employer has been hoodwinking their employees.
Back to the gist of the post/thread, I tried a sit in a box flight sim at the Adelaide Show or something, or was it a science fair, can't remember now, but it was a box contraption, like a gocart, was in the early 1990s, very basic, with a screen in front, with grip bars for yokes, and guess what, yep, I crashed that GA (gen aviation) plane.
Also tried a flightsim chopper/helicopter thing, yep, also crashed.
Now I am just the back seat wannabe pilot.

I started playing this sim on Tuesday when it was first made available to download. And I’m very impressed with everything so far, especially the performance with all the graphics turned up high compared to XP11. It’s very much life-like with everything turned up and the handcrafted airports are immaculate - just taxiing around the airports on ground is enjoyable. They’ve really done a great job optimizing the code to efficiently use all of your computing resources to give you the best experience.

Best money I’ve ever spent on a computer game, albeit $180 (premium deluxe version).

What level of hardware are you using? Amount of RAM?

i7-9700K overclocked to 5.2Ghz (water cooling system)
2080 Super overclocked by 15-20%
32GB RAM @ 3200Mhz (default timings)

I have a 34” Alienware curved ultra widescreen which runs at a resolution of 3440 x 1560. My graphics settings in FS 2020 are set to a custom combination of high and ultra.

Since the terrain data seems to be partly stored locally and partly downloaded on the fly, I guess it’s important to also note that I have FTTC SuperLoop NBN 100/20 with 4ms latency.

Anyone else been playing the game? I’ve spent a little time completing their landing challenges which are fun. The current fortnightly challenge has you landing a Cessna in a mountainous ski area with a spectacular approach. I love how you’re rated on your landing according to three different measures which then derive a total score. My highest score is 1.5M which currently places me 691st among how many thousands of other users. The very top scores (1.9M) seem impossible to achieve given how good I thought my best landing was.

everything is going to look awesome on that.

I'm going to have to reschedule my hardware purchase so that it doesn't appear to Mrs Albatross two days after I first download FlightSim.

Enjoy

It doesn't want more than four cores(yet) so if your CPU is fairly recent you might be able to save some money there. Graphics power however seems to be the sticking point, unless you're cool with 1080p.
