Cathay to cut worldwide capacity by 30% [Now 96%]

So there are reports in the press that 90% of flights in April have been canned but can't find any official list of what's been cancelled, any ideas of where I look.

You could try expertflyer or similar and see what’s available. CX website updates appear to be way out of date, they have travel advice about entering Australia that is weeks old.

A blast from the past. CX157 just flew past en route back to HKG. A blast from the past - my former (air)bus to work. It flew in as CX156, a 777 this time, three hours before the schedule yesterday. Presumably this is one of the Repat flights from HKG, although I thought QF and VA were operating them.

Yikes!
Hong Kong’s flag carrier reported a 99.6 per cent drop in passengers carried in April – the steepest ever reduction recorded by the airline group – from the 3.12 million customers carried in the same month last year.

So that would be about 12,500 passengers for the whole month, not much more than 400 a day!

the bigger question is will the people come back to CX and HK after the pandemic is over with the protests restarting almost immediately now

I think it’s more about the protests than Corona long term for CX and HKG and may already be too late, alot of expat businesses had already started moving out of HK for safer regional office locations

I agree that it may be a bit too late

Husband cancelled his Syd to LHR in sept and is now flying with Qantas
Changed a reward booking for Nov from Cathay to Qantas
We still have two legs with Cathay in Nov wondering whether we just swop them over now 🙄
How do you book an Asia Mile award on Qantas, or Qatar?

Hate to drag into politics... but CX now with the links to CCP and mainland China, I am glad when this airline goes bust... hkers most do NOT want to fly with this airline since mid 2019

I'd wait a couple of days. They could very well reinstate the flights just like that other airline.

It is going to get worse. This news is awful for those in HK trying to get back to Australia.

Hopefully other airlines can step up and fill in the remaining caps.

I understand where you are coming from, especially with NSL and CX's implications. But this would hurt the staff far more than management.

Doubt it. This is nothing to do with Australia's cap. It is got to do HK government's requirements for quarantining their own aircrew at home. It meant that aircrew is pretty locked up for months.

I cannot see this being relaxed until HK's COVID cases has dropped to single digits.

I feel sorry for the staff but as I said, the airline deserved to go bankrupt for going against the back to the people against the tyrant government in CCP

No doubt they will. It's not really the responsibility of the other airlines , it's that of the government to ensure the caps are increased for other carriers to absorb the CX capacity. The other airlines don't really have to "step up" at all ("step up" seems to imply adding services) , all they have to do is increase the number of passengers they're carrying on a 300 seat aircraft from say 40 to 55 (or what ever the numbers are). Not too difficult.
