For “essential” business travel some negotiations going on with Singapore apparently .... sounds like it could be reliant on rigorous testing ... be interesting to know if AU government is interested or not ...

Sounds like SG-China will open up first before SG-xx.

The thing with sterile corridors is that all countries joined by that corridor need to be 'sterile'. So AU-SG may be okay, but once it becomes AU-SG-CN, or AU-SG-USA, or AU-SG-IT etc, it will contaminate the entire corridor, as folks in theory can travel anywhere within without scrutiny.

It's difficult to tell another country who they can or can't open up to, so would think if SG did that, AU would then close off borders with SG again.

The other consideration with SCs that it seems to be driven by economic factors rather than health. For example, there are SG-CN corridor discussions. And in Europe, Austria wants to open with DE/CH, but no mention of SI where C19 has almost been eliminated. There is nothing 'sterile' about that.

From various reports earlier also Singapore is being Australian's large trade partners and with so many Aussie businesses in Singapore, I cannot see why Australia is not interested in it.

However, any travel bubbles, green lanes will need to happen after the success of Trans-Tasman travel bubble.

That's why we should desperately have our Trans-Tasman bubble up and running by July so that we can start talking with other countries to open up by September school holidays.

I think one day in 2020, we will need to reopen the borders with some countries without the need of quarantine.

We certainly cannot tell other countries which country they can open the border to and which one they cannot, however we can, as Australia push the burden for that to other countries too.

For example, during the earlier stage of the travel ban, we do not let people to fly directly from China (Mainland), and we can do the same for USA etc, where should a 3rd country opens the border with the US, should they want to come to Australia, then make sure you stay in that country for 14 days before able to come over.

The thing is, this doesn't seem to be about "travel bubbles" and "opening corridors" but rather strict testing protocols before and after travel to green light specific travel, rather than have 28 days of quarantine. The "travel bubble" talked about with NZ is more about less restrictions within the bubble, but maintaining restrictions with places outside the bubble. The former, for a very specific set of travellers, and certainly not tourists, and the latter for tourists and VFR as well.

Also worth noting it's not Singapore-China that will have the arrangements first, it is Singapore - 3 cities (Shanghai, Tianjing and Chongqing) and 3 provinces (Guangdong - which includes Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Zhejiang & Jiangsu - which both surround Shanghai).

Are you pleased with your decision to fly here?

Nothing stopping folks in China travelling to those cities, then onwards to SG then AU (when the SG/AU SC opens).

If I recall correctly, before the AU lockdown but after prohibiting Chinese visitors, Chinese were flocking to third countries, finishing their quarantine (if any), then entering AU. If there is a loophole people will find it.

Breaking News - Japanese Government reportedly allowing Business Travellers to enter into Japan from Northern Summer 2020

In Japanese - Hopefully Scoot Morrison and Jacinta Adern can consider adding Japan into Trans-Tasman Travel Bubble

I am very surprised why Singapore can have agreements with mainland China and not Hong Kong first.

I gravely concerned such action is marginalising Hong Kong.

Except the Chinese, Singaporean and Australian governments. They way I read it, is the planned “green lanes” will not be a free for all (like a bubble or pre-COVID travel) but a process for critical business travel. If it involves testing at one or both ends, as per articles I’ve read , there will be some controls in place I am sure to verify eligibility of travellers.

Also, China government knows where their citizens come from, and do have the ability restrict movement based on someone’s home province, city or village.

I’d be going crazy if I hadn’t come here. At the best of times SG can feel a bit like a prison, but basically we’d be stuck in our apartment except for some long walks in the 32 (feels like 39) degrees heat. And no hope of leaving the island ... here “stuck” in our holiday home, I’ve had beach, bush and cliff walks, spend a lot of time in our garden (really needed a clean up) and more recently also spent time with both our mothers and other relatives. In between 9+ hr work days.

As I explained to an Indian colleague I’m currently staying in a town of 2,500 people that takes an hour(or more) to walk from one end to the other. At home in Singapore I stay in apartment complex that has about 2,500 people and it takes about a minute to walk from one of the complex to the other .

Not looking forward to going back, probably early July.

I sincerely hope business travel to/from Singapore can resume shortly. I think once the green lane starts, then we will be able to establish a framework which will facilitates family reunion and other purposes of travel later this year.

I sincerely hope so too!

No foreigners allowed into HKG until beginning of September.

It is sad to hear that we will not be able to go back and vote for legislative council, which will effectively vote out the pro-Peking camp and end the protest there.

Do you think it is part of a strategy to prevent "western exposed" HKers from returning and influencing the vote?

It is exactly that.. but local hk people are NOT prevented from entering HK.. it is whether they can leave HK after...

if you are from HK, and have HK ID... you are NOT prevented from entering the city, it is foreign travellers that are banned, but it is the problem whether you can leave after
