Angry about proposed travel ban exemption for footballers

An "industry" diverting millions of dollars that produces no material outcome worthwhile to society. YMMV. Not much different to pokies in my book.
I think mental health during this ISO is a significant issue. If it can be safely done then some kind of release is needed. Especially now the weather has gone to cough and we have to stay inside.

I'm one of those anti-social people that doesn't believe entertaining the masses with ignorant law breaking bullies going out in a field to try and damage each other physically while calling each other epithets and encouraging a crowd to the same a worthwhile contribution to society. Not much different to the various Caesars collosseums. YMMV

And don’t get me started about the amount of sport that is in the media. Sometimes, if I feel like listening to the radio three of my favourite stations will have some sort of sport. Boring.

My preference would be a focus on how to safely re-open playgrounds, gyms, museums, beaches, wildlife parks, zoos, libraries, swimming pools. Things that contribute to society rather than detract (distract).

I disagree too. But discussions would have been held with government and my guess is that time is when government expects relaxed social distancing. Unlike a cafe reopening elite sport does require a longer lead in time. But I also agree a post above an idiot will break the quarantine rules andthey will be back to square one.

And let’s be really clear here.

These guys are well paid to run around chasing a ball.

They are not the sharpest tools in the shed, because they don’t have to be.

Im therefore predicting one/many will not understand or will proactively stuff up putting all of us at risk.

Leaving aside all the parochial stuff (eg NRL is just in a few eastern States, and Vic only allow other states to be part of AFL to increase TV revenues), the basis for whether to reopen any "business" must be made on sound medical grounds.
Edit: I should have said Rugby is likely to be just a domestic NZ game now that the Rugby Australia has self-destructed.
Endnote: Ducking behind Pushka for extra cover!

I find it amazing that some people believe sport is a valid exception to the rules. Today, the only way our family can participate or watch my own son's wedding, which is taking place about 25km from my home, is via Facebook Live or a Zoom meeting. If a wedding can only have five people present, the why should other groups expect to be exempted from the rules.

I am so sorry to hear that. It does make sport sound so meaningless at such times.

Well yes. But that isn't the template for AFL. And mostly they don't do the same antisocial behaviours that League does.

So sorry to hear that. So many genuinely important family milestones on the timelines of our lives are being affected by this wretched virus. I wish your son and his new wife/husband a very long and happy marriage.

A close friend died suddenly this week and for the funeral even with immediate family there is more than 10 (who is going to make the call that either his son or his brother can't attend) that puts this sort of stuff into perspective

Again I agree with what's written above, especially as to why is horse racing still happening in a lot of places, do jockeys have to stay a couple of metres apart when they are racing?

opium of the people?

I'd hope the funeral home would be "creative" and sort out some way to ameliorate this very sad scenario but which is being played out across Australia.

Just spoke to his daughter and it's going to be live streamed but it's not the same and the wake is an important part of the grieving

Totally agree. I was thinking that maybe they could have a couple of different rooms with 10 people in each and then mingle between each one?

I think if the leagues can make it safe with proper quarantine measures, then i look forward to it restarting. Plenty of industries are operating with way more than 1 person each 1.5sqm or with 1.5m separation. (Construction/hairdressing etc.)

A lot more of long term painful mental suffering than being asked to enjoy the confines of your own home in front of netflix for 4-6 weeks without football.

Ben Cousins.Lachie Hunter,Dayne Beams,Tyson Stengle amongst others.
Many AFL players have been accused of sexual assault-seem to be at least as many as the NRL.
Interestingly a 4 Corners program on sexual Assaults in the NRL still has the transcript of the show online.A similar 4 Corners program on the AFL has been totally deleted.Maybe the AFL just has better connected PR managers.

Like most walks of life there will always be bad apples. The majority of AFL players are law abiding good citizens that do a lot of charity work and other good deeds
