The "I am in self-isolation" thread

Day 13 for me, free after tomorrow, but who really want's to go anywhere. Should finish my TR tomorrow to coincide with my last day of enforced imprisonment, has kept me reasonably sane. First outdoor job is mowing the lawn.

Same timeline here, can't wait till Thursday. Mainly I just want to be able to go out for a long walk!

10 days of self isolation down, 4 more to go. Boredom is not on the agenda, actually getting rather tired, work has been really busy, working most weekdays from about 10am to 10pm with breaks for meals (no calls tonight, have the evening off, looking forward to it) , and spent the weekend in the garden trimming various vegetation and compressing it into the green waste bin, as well as a few maintenance chores. Actually been a blessing, as our Australian property (where we are) always needs work. If the weather holds up, need to stain the decking on Saturday before we come out of isolation.

But ever so grateful to be stuck in a 2 story house with big garden. In the previous two weeks had been working from home/ self isolating most of the time in our 3BR apartment in Singapore - that was tough going, even though we can open windows, it's the time of the year where you don't get "fresh" air in the direction we face - so basically just living in aircon 24/7 - which is not ideal.

Yes that is first on my agenda. From a holiday walking between 13 and 30 k a day, back to zilch was a bit of a shock to the system.

Mrs FB just reminded me it's a long, long weekend this weekend. Escaping just in time!
But unless you have "essential travel"? welcome to the new world, hopefully a vaccination can be produced sooner rather than later. However I remember when I was a child, if some one you knew has measles or mumps you were sent over to play to catch and get over the damn thing. Have we quarantined ourselves that much we have little resistance to these things. I am sure that others on this forum who are qualified to answer will do same.

Essential travel and/or exercise once a day, I'm just glad I don't have to spend the 4 days of no work cooped up inside and can at least go for a walk to the shop and back.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Seeing many of our friends are in the age group at the most risk from CV19, many of our friends have been in self imposed self isolation now for 2-3 weeks.

Tonight we held our second virtual dinner party with friends over Whatsapp. At the virtual dinner parties we prepare menus and set the table nicely dress up and meet electronically for pre dinner drinks & "share" entrees, have a toast, then adjourn to eat mains and reconnect for desserts and a tipple and jokes - all via Whatsapp.

The three couples from virtual dinner party #1 expanded to 4 tonight which is the limit of the technology on mobiles. There are other apps that can be used on PCs etc, but mobiles are handy for scanning the table, selfies and focusing on one person speaking, an outfit, a plate etc.

Tonight's theme was Hawaiian and the menus reflected that and some of us dressed in loud tropical themed shirts we previously bought for theme nights on cruises into the Pacific that have been hanging in the wardrobe unloved for a few years. Much laughter and giggles with a few glasses has lifted the spirits away from all the doom and gloom around lately.

Now a dilemma for next week. How do we pick and choose who will come to the next dinner as there are others wanting to join but the technology becomes a limiting factor not only on numbers (4 concurrent sessions) but especially when everyone is talking over each other after a glass or two.

Certainly changing the way we interact but we are determined to remain connected.

You know Zoom is regarded by many as malaware?

I was discussing that with friends last night, with a view to having a virtual dinner 'do'. We decided that if anyone wanted to video-bomb us, or generally tune in, they'd be very disappointed. But we'll be using WhatsApp. :)

Yes I have just been reading about that, but they are welcome to join in our elderly ladies gossip session. I might suggest an alternate to my friend, but I think she has only recently come to grips with zoom.

The only one we use is WhatsApp. Mind you we only use son to us or friend to us
Havnt used a more than two people one.
Husband has a group he belongs to that is going to use Zoom for their regularly meeting that is usually in person. He is very pleased that the meetings can be held albeit virtually.

Read an article today that states by week three of isolation mental health should be a bit better. We are currently coming to near the end of almost four weeks of staying in as much as possible and for the most part it is ok.
Husband and I aren't massively social people but our social outings are still missed. I don't think virtual is the same , it does not permit the same interaction. Interestly that has not changed from the days in telecommunications when it was suggested that as we had numerous meetings interstate that virtual was the way to go , it didn't last long at all . I think that was back in the early 90's that was suggested

Im not a social person and now on week #4 at home but yesterday both hubby and I raced to the front door to yell thank you, wave and have a good day to the postie.

Now I get why dogs race to the door and bark, most are saying hello :D

I like the idea of your dinner!
We had drinks with 3 other couples last night and it was lots of fun. Another is joining us next week when we will also include a trivia night.
We're using FB Messenger - group video chat allows up to six people at a time but I think 4-5 couples works best.

We have used Zoom, Skype, MS Teams & Facebook Messenger this week alone. Zoom seems to have excellent video/audio balance, but for the work (as opposed to social) meetings MS Teams proved very successful. There are side panels for notes and other features I am yet to explore. We have used Zoom with up to 8 participants, which was quite impressive considering the different devices and networks being used as all except one were off-site from their workplace.

But for all this, its hard to be 800m from your child and her children, but having to Zoom to be with them.
