Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Im trying to avoid sending hubby to the post office/mail box so started having deliveries sent to home and so far, so good.

Was reminded on another thread to get a hair clipper thing for hubby as his barber is closed. Shaver Shop join mailing list $10 off coupon plus over $30 so free shipping.

Got a phone call the other day - are you VPS - yes - are you home - yes - well can you come to the front door. Ah what address - friends place that I had sent him wine so said to driver just leave on front verandah - he won't be far. I rang friend and said - driver just left a case of wine at your front door. Friend goes out - driver still there and said oh I didn't ring the bell because it didn't look like anyone was at home - DUH

Oh the Aus Post Postie has gone one better. They don't even load the goods and get the customer to have to go collect it themselves. The ultimate no touch service.
Ha, what's new? (BTW, likely not a "Postie" but more like a subcontracted delivery dude.)

And a Click and Collect spotted at Bunnings already and it's not even 9am.

Anyone remember the old days where your parents would just get half a tonne or a tonne delivered to your house and dumped on your front lawn?

We had the soil for our back and front yards delivered. Much cheaper to do it that way, though I don’t recommend wheelbarrowing that much soil while pregnant....

There was a letter at the same time so the postie. In our old suburb Australia Post used a parcel truck. No such luck here. And the Post Office they deliver to should be shut down due to Covid non compliance.

Just some feedback on the supermarkets gouging customers - just got my second online Woolies order this morning - went through the list double checking prices - I really did not pick up anything unusual - seems like same kind of pricing as back in January (allowing for seasonal fluctuations on seasonal items). A few examples: raspberries and blueberries $4 per panet, broccolini $3 for a large bunch, pre-washed salad & rocket $3 per large bag, asparagus $3 per bunch, fresh herbs 2 packets for $5, etc other grocery items were unchanged (pre-packaged cashews, rice, shower gel, spray & wipe, ... to name a few). I do agree there did not seem to be any specials.

I called in to WW to get some essentials after work yesterday and there were quite a few special price tags - I wasn't expecting to see any.
I wanted a soap refill but unfortunately that and hand sanitizer were unavailable. Everyone I saw was doing the right thing - met on entry and directed to wipes for me to wipe down my own trolley.

Woolies has a catalogue out starting today. No where near as much in it as normal but a big improvement from recent weeks. For those in need Coke is on special.

Mum in law got soap in her order this week but not the Dettol soap, it was a cheaper Country Life 5 pack but its still soap so not complaining.

Yes, still happens where I live also

[we have shops called nursery's - admittedly fewer now Bunnys have moved in.  ;) ]

We buy pretty much all of gardening related stuff here in London from local nurseries, better selections, better prices and more knowledgeable people running the show. On the odd occasion though we do have to relent and nip into B&Q.

I had a monitor and a office chair delivered over the last week - both came via Toll.

On Friday the guy with monitor placed the box on the ground outide his van asked for my name no signature. I had to carry it to my apartmetn myself.

On Monday the chair was very bulky and heavy so the young guy carried the box up the stairs to my door, again just asked for a first name, so signature.

if something coming via AUsPost I never get it delivered to my house as they dont even try to deliver, just automatically put a card in the letter box and then leave it at a post office that one needs a car to get to. So if coming via auspot i just have to sent to my PO box, they then leave a key in my PO box and the parcel in a parcel locker - simples.

I wouldn't say it's panic buying as such, but more reflective of the state of where people are working from now - home. Mrs FB kicked me out of my home office (ok, well....... I offered it because happy wife, happy life and all that ;)) so we ordered another set of monitors, wireless keyboard/mouse and docking station so I could set myself up on the dining room table. Price on those kind of goods have been on the up for a while, fortunately we got the order in before it rose too much. I wondered why a week later it still hadn't arrived, seems that from the point of order when it was in stock to then actually processing the order it had gone out of stock, so of course it's now back in stock and due to arrive today...... when I'm no longer working! Oh well, it'll add some scenery to the dining table for a while and if/when projects start to kick off again at least I'll have a decent setup to use again.

Royal Mail tends to do the same here, the regular posties walk around the street using their satchels and then a separate person will come around with any parcels.

Woolworths told stores yesterday that they had to tie up the ends as planned for this week. Of course, most stores had already filled at least all the back ends up with Easter stock so didn't bother stripping them only to put it up again next week.
Specials are starting to come back, not as many as normal, but more then the catalogue.

Limits on fresh milk, meat (except mince), pre packed potatos and bakery were removed this morning.
Limits on canned veg were adjusted. Now max of 2 Canned Tomatoes, 2 Canned Legumes and 2 other Canned Veg.

Why is mince is such high demand? It's it because of versatility, or?

I've had one colleague buy hand soap for me (I haven't found any at any supermarket I've been to over the last few weeks) and another has found veggie seedlings for me. Just hoping the shop is restocked with pasta flour this weekend and I'm back in business.
