You need to consider these types of contact. Going to a mate's place for a bbq... what are the risks? For a start... you're touching lots of surfaces: bottles of wine or beer, bowls for salads and sides, glasses, cutlery.

You're then bringing those things to your face and mouth.

So while at the work place, or after travelling on public transport you can wash and sanitise your hands... it might not be practicable to do these things every 30 seconds while you're at your mate's BBQ.

It seems some countries have moved to close schools, except for children of essential workers - health care, fire, police, etc.

One of the problems with closing schools is that (IIRC) up to 30% are children of essential workers. If nurses have to take leave to look after their kids, then the hospitals will be really stretched.

The other problem is that closing schools will disproportionately affect casual workers and other workers on tenuous employment.

And sadly there are children who are safer at school than at home due to a toxic/abusive home environment

I did hear that schools may be left open for the kids of healthcare workers I think in Singapore and maybe UK. Eminently sensible because sadly the grandies can no longer babysit.

Slight shift. I keep getting emails from Sportscraft for discount offers. I don't even look at them anymore because in reality none of us have anywhere to go to wear nice outfits.

Something Ive been thinking about, as someone that came from a home life with alcoholic parents, domestic violence, is the effect this is going to have on victims who are going to be basically trapped with their abuser in a situation that is going to be more volatile as the days/stress/lockdown continues.

I share this because its not something to be ashamed of - we need to talk about these things, they happen. And not just children but spouses/partners of abusers.

School is often the safest place for children with a bad home life and some schools offer breakfast programs because of food insecurity. Work is often the safest place for adults who have abusive partners.

Other than flu like symptoms, shortness of breath etc, is there a chance that those infected will just recover like a bad flu eventually?

On current stats there's a 16% chance of that with a further 2% chance of a Really Really bad flu experience.

Of the other, there's an 80% chance of just a run of the mill chest infection.

2% is stil pretty high but i guess 98% full recovery with rest isnt too bad

Suppose 7 out of 1350 cases is well below 2% for the moment

I think we should also look at our worklife and ask if theres an expat in the office that might be feeling very alone right now.

We have one, great addition to our team, but his 2 x roommates were called back to the UK last week and he doesnt have a car and hasnt done a shop. Basically on his own in an emergency or support situation. He knows he can contact at least three of us for anything. Im also sure that his family back home are happy to know.

And that's why you need to wash hands, sanitize, and don't touch your face.

And those who are sick, stay home.

A chef/waiter may touch a container and contaminate the container. You have to make sure you don't transfer it off the container and in to you. So wash, sanitize, etc.

And also the reason why going to a mate's place for a BBQ is a bad idea.
