We are not self isolating per se, however I am now having to WFH week on, week off. It is just about the end of week one and I have created a new phrase (rule) for the Matt_01 household known as "social silence" which takes precedence over "social distancing". 2 out of 3 in the house cannot seem to get their head around this simple concept.
Soooo..... discussing what online shopping needs to happen now no personal shopping in New York ? Lol

Well, this is embarrassing. I mentioned that when I returned from o/s I retrieved my car from friends who had been garaging it, and had stocked it with groceries. Since arriving home, neighbors have been great in offering to buy/get things etc if I need it. Yesterday, 2 separate neighbors bought and left toilet paper for me 'just in case'.

I'm now officially a hoarder :(

Otherwise, things going fine. Plenty of study to keep me going, and a consignment of Uni library books has just arrived. The lawn needs mowing, though - some jobs can be avoided even in these circumstances :) .

Have just made a round of calls to friends and family - something I don't do enough of in regular times, so that's another positive.

I'm sorry for those for whom it isn't going as smoothly - but give it a day or so and hopefully the rough edges will begin to be taken out.

For excellent frozen meal deliveries I can strongly recommend "We Feed You". Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, but plenty for carnivores as well. (Better than Lite 'n Easy, I'm sure.) I discovered them when I wrenched my knee and couldn't get to shops or even face cooking for myself. Not the cheapest, but I find that one of their serves is sufficient for 2 meals for me.

Our second honeymoon continues as we start Day 4.
Hadn’t been thinking about getting a mail order doll........
Mrscove still seems like a nice person......SIL has had her hours cut so she can visit granny at her home when we cannot today. Two neighbours visited granny yesterday which is an act of kindness. Then my sons partner arrived with some goodies for her.
Sharp knives remain in the knife drawer........
So far, Mrs Cove seems to be a cut above...... :)

I've just purchased a 'Portal by Facebook' gizmo and had one sent to each of my kids and my mum in the UK. Now we can all have group video calls and fun with the kids with the built in apps.

Zoom is a great product if you want to chat to others - it's free for the first 40 minutes but you can also hang up and start again.

Day 5. Not travelled recently but being of the at risk age group, took a personal decision last weekend to implement significant purposeful social distancing and break the cycle.

First order changes. No eating out (deliveries OK with no contact). No visiting others. Largely no visitors (select few who we know are doing similar). There is a bottle of hand sanitiser next to the front door and no entry (even to us/me) without cleaning hands first. Walk around the park each morning with the neighbour avoiding standing near people at pedestrian crossings and footpaths, no touching traffic light buttons, using the stairs instead of elevator, using elbow to open door handles. Planning ahead shopping trips to minimise number visits made per week and avoid the typical busy periods (aka 4:30-6.30 pm). Take my own bag to the supermarket and avoid use of trolleys or baskets. Use a knuckle for the touchscreen on self serve checkouts. Not attending doctors or other waiting rooms and having telephone consults in lieu. Faxing scripts to the chemist and having home delivery. Stopped using public transport and walk or use the car for transport. Hand sanitiser in the car to be used whenever touched anything outside the car.

Filling in the days texting and chatting to friends, cleaning and tidying up the spare room, watching re-runs of BGT, comedians and other programs on youtube to break the sombre mood.

Might all seem obsessive, but we all must do everything we can to break the cycle of infection.

All ok here today @JohnM . Had an apple and plum cake from our neighbours and they will get us our mail. Excellent....
Tonight/ tomorrow we will be getting a delivery of fruit, veg and meat so no need to go cannibal.....
Sales of freezers and home gym equipment thru the roof.
California is going into lock down so we are happy to be in Perth.
Some of our shipments out of Long Beach California may get delayed.

That's what I use at work, has been working well. One of my other clients uses WebEx and that's been an absolute joke to use.

Just an end of day update on how we fared and who delivered (excuse the pun) should anyone find themselves in a similar situation to ours in the future:
  • As mentioned, the little one's welfare is all we are particularly concerned about, we can always find a way to subsist, so thankfully we managed to get everything we needed for her:
    • Amazon absolutely delivered. I ordered some baby food and some nappies from them - the baby food arrived next day (day before we arrived home) and was well hidden by the postie.
    • The nappies were promised to arrive next Monday by Amazon, and ended up arriving today.
    • There were a few baby food items Amazon didn't have ready to go until next week, but they told me that at the time of order and then split our deliveries into what could be delivered immediately and what will be delivered over the next week when it becomes available. This is the perfect approach (and costs them more due to multiple shipments, so is commendable).
  • Officeworks absolutely didn't deliver. I didn't expect them to to be honest, but when I saw they had some long life milk which noone else seems to and that it advertised as being able to be delivered by today, that would have held us through until Monday when WW online would theoretically deliver us fresh milk
    • After ordering, they split the 4 x 1 litre (2 full cream for her and 2 skim for us) order into one order of three and one order of 1. The order of 3 was due today, the order of 1 yesterday.
    • Nothing has arrived, but looking at the order tracker they have only sent the order of 1 with no ETA and the order of 3 doesn't appear to have even been packed yet, so I suspect it will arrive after WW online order, if at all. I may just cancel it, I don't expect they'll deliver the rest.
  • Uber Eats saved the day, not exactly economically, and not very COVID-aware
    • We ordered some lunch from Uber Eats (since nothing had arrived by then) and in doing so I noticed they had a section for ordering groceries... which is new
    • It turns out, they now have an option to pick up a few staple items from Caltex Foodary and some other local convenience store. There wasn't much of a selection, but I was able to get milk. It's not cheap at about $5 per 2L milk plus $7 delivery, but given we wouldn't have had any milk until Monday otherwise (and WW online is still 50/50 in my books on whether it will deliver) it was a no brainer.
    • For both the orders I wrote "COVID 19 Quarantine please leave at the door" in the delivery notes and in both cases they kept ringing the doorbell and we had to mime through the window to just leave the order at the door, with some pretty confused looks on the delivery people's faces. I'll print up a sign that we'll tape to the door for future orders.
  • For us the parents as a backup plan, lite n easy delivered
    • We now have enough frozen meals to last us until we get whatever we get from woolworths, with a few to spare as an emergency fallback
    • They dropped off the meals right when they said they would, however it's a once a week delivery schedule so a lot of it comes down to luck, as our suburb just happened to fall on the day that we returned, hence why I ordered from them to tide us over until our WW delivery window.
Thankfully we have a few alcoholic beverages in storage so I think I'll partake in a few over what will be a very ordinary but thankfully edible microwave lasagne to celebrate.

We use WebEx as well, and it certainly has its moments! The work from home requirement has been ramped up today so we trialled Microsoft Teams locally and it seemed to hold up ok.

You heard it here first folks - I just spoke positively about an MS product!

Our WFH requirement has ramped up too, Mrs FB has now been mandated to WFH also. I was in my upstairs home office first, all setup and ready to go with my docking station, 3 monitors etc. Guess who is now working downstairs from the dining room table with a monitor dug out of the cupboard that only does a resolution of 1280x1024? Grrrrr............. Going to be a fun few months! ;)

Not a fan of MS Teams myself, personally! We use it too but just for collaboration on projects, still use Zoom for teleconf/VC.

The gap between what self-isolators can do and the rest of us continues to narrow.

The new self-distancing rules of 4 sq metres pp has had an immediate impact at our local swimming pool. After tonight the spa, sauna and steam room are closing because it is impossible to enforce those rules in those areas. We visit that pool everyday - Mrs SS uses the spa and steam room and I swim laps.

I expect it won’t be long before the pool closes as well. since last weekend I have upped my daily swim in anticipation from 1.5 - 2 kms per day to 2 - 2.5 kms per day as I don’t want to lose too much fitness and endurance when the inevitable closure period arrives.

Some just don’t get it, as yet, do they?

Day 5. My repaired mower got delivered, so that will take care of days 6 and 7 if I take it easy. Palak Gosht on the stove, and getting a bit hungry. Our parcels arrived and it was like christmas:D. Turned all our future flights into vouchers, carefully preserving DSC entitlements. One is stuck, which is a worry.

If you want to vote in the Qld Local Council elections, I confirmed that if you are a compulsory self isolatee you are entitled to telephone voting (it qualifies as an ‘impairment’ . You need to call 1300 881 665 and register. Wait time was about 30 minutes when I called.

right-ho time to make the cucumber raita and nuke the pappadams...

cheers skip

The postie signed it himself, so that I wouldn't have to touch the device.

Yes at my local post office, the staff are signing for items rather than the customer. I’m in isolation and got 2 texts “your item has been collected” (??!!). Call explained the situation. I’ll get someone to bring them to my place.
