A ripper of a storm passed through the northside of Brisbane about an hour ago...but understandable as by 7am it was oppresively hot.

The storms have been getting earlier & earlier.

Interesting. Atleast you get some rain, Melbourne seems to be getting drier and drier, with the dam levels dropping for 10 years.

Don't get me started on crazy Singapore weather, wetter seasons that are not as wet and dry seasons that are wet. On the plus side not so hot :)

200km east of Melbourne and the on last two weekends we had around 45 and 49 mm of rain. Weird :!:

Ditto here. It's like a basting oven inside. *insert hot & sweaty emoticon here*

Hopefully this is good grounding for mini-LW.

I saw a few droplets of water, but that was about all here I think. Did nothing to solve the stiffling humidity outside.

Yeah, the storms are prettty intense this Summer in Brisbane. The one last night wasn't too bad on the "intense" scale.

Low's of about 24, Highs of about 29-30, about 50% chance of rain during the day.
More or less same as usual i guess. Rain will only be short, you know rains an hour then its try 10 minutes later (and a little more humid)

Btw, i will be in town :) I could not make it to Korea, so i am only going to China on Sunday. I was going to send you a PM to say i would be here, it was decided friday.

Excellent! I don't think I'll have the interwebs while I'm there; so not sure how I'll approach things... am in the middle of trying to map out some sort of plan for the 4 days as we speak.

For anyone from Brisbane, or visiting Brisbane, please don't forget the last drinks for the year is on 17 December 2008 at The Mill Hotel in Spring Hill.

Hope to see all you there again and don't forget a perfect opportunity to get some more Amex transactions before the end of the Year....

Well the southerly is in so it should be a lot cooler over the next few days.

And what about those without Amex; can I pay with overseas currency as I seem to have a bit left. :!:

Oh and I missed the train today by about 30 seconds saw it pull out of the station. Oh well; I wasn't really in a big hurry anyway so just waited for the next one, it was dam hot though.

I have no flights left; what should I do about that, should I book a TTN.

Well I did arrive in Cairns Saturday morning at 5am!

Went to the hotel but it was just a touch early for me to check in, but did go for a very long walk and got back to the hotel about 8 and they gave me a room, which was very good of them.

Did the Kuranda thing today, came down on the sky cable car thing. Lovely place - of course I could never live here and the humidity just doesn't agree with me. (That and dairy doesn't agree with my tummy, and a creme brulee last night just about ended me!) ;)

Flying back to Perth tomorrow (via Melb ) so can guest someone to the Melb QP between say 4 and 8..

Just joined the Fairmont President's Club (so I can earn 500 AA miles), and it looks like with that I may get complimentary internet access... so may not be offline after all

No problem. I just got into BNE, only 105 minutes late. The cooler weather will suit me a little better just need to make sure the wet weather stays away so I do not get wet. I hate carrying an umbrella to work.

I will be glad to take some of the overseas currency off you, especially from countries I have not visited, and I will give you competitive exchange rates with no commission charges. ;)

You can have some of mine, especially the late ones.

I just managed to get myself a booking @ Tetsuya's for Feb 14 next year, and didn't even have to go through AMEX Concierge

Ahh, so you catch the same train as me...
I must be a sucker for punishment. Got to the train station 20 seconds late this morning. Yes you guessed it the train left on time. No problem the next train will be along in 15 minutes. Wrong! I had to wait 22:45 minutes. :-|

I'm bored again! This thread needs another move...

Continuing from the previous set. Again, answer any or all.

11. The three most important things a good airline lounge needs are (in order)......
12. Which of the three major oceans have you crossed? And in which order and direction (i.e. east/west)?
13. Have you ever flown international First class (on any airline)? If so, describe the first time.
14. Describe the last time you had to use stairs (rather than an aerobridge) for an international flight.
15. Boeing or Airbus?
16. Have you ever celebrated a significant event whilst in the air (e.g. birthday, etc.)?
17. Is there an airline which uses your initials as its 2-letter IATA designator?
18. Describe the most turbulent flight you have ever been on.
19. In your opinion, which is the best international passenger airport in the world?
20. What is your most preferred WHY refreshment item on a QF "Refreshment" domestic flight?

Re: Some silly and survey questions (just to kick this thread around)

Should probably answer my own questions... only fair...

  1. Tea, coffee or neither? If something, how do you have it?
  2. "You're saying that my checked baggage is 15 kg and my carry-on is 12 kg and you're telling me I have to transfer 5 kg out of my carry-on into my checked baggage?? What's the difference? It's all going on the same plane and it's all the same weight!"

An oft spouted remark, especially from my dad. Discuss and debate.
  3. Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo, Reykjavik.
Rank them in priority order of visiting (from most desired to visit down to least desired to visit).
  4. LHR {T1, T2, T3, T4, T5} ; LGW {South, North} ; LCY ; LTN ; STN.
Of all of those, which have you visited?
  5. What is your favourite airline which is not a main member of any of the three major global alliances (i.e. Sky Team, Star Alliance or oneworld)?
  6. For a free Economy ticket good for domestic travel up to 1200 miles, would you be an FA for a flight in the SYD/MEL/BNE triangle?
  7. Why are flights to/from MEL always turbulent?
  8. Have you been to AVV? If so, why did you do it?
  9. Have you ever been on a now-retired JQ Boeing 717?
  10. What is your standard breakfast from the Domestic QP breakfast offering? (Note this is the standard "lowly" QP, not the JL)

1. Coffee: soy latte, otherwise brewed strong with a bit of milk. No instant, please! Tea: usually black.
2. I'm assuming someone's modelled different weight bags in different weight distributions under different conditions. But also along the same lines as what everyone else answered (i.e. I wouldn't want to get pounded by a heavy carry-on).
3. Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Reykjavik, Oslo
4. None of them.
5. Malaysia Airlines (although PR in it's hey-day was pretty good)
6. I'd give it a whirl.
7. Looks like I'm just unlucky on this one.
8. No.
9. No.
10. Bircher museli with yoghurt and berry sauce, orange juice, white coffee.

14. BA B777-236 boarding from a bus at LHR on the way to DFW.
15. Does it matter.
16. I guess being on the inaugural A380 passenger flight from SYD-SIN,
17. Not sure haven't checked
18. a) Length SEA-NRT good 3 hours with the seat belt on.
b) Severity BNE-HVB: a Metro 23 flying through a storm/rain shower.
19. Singapore

12. Pacific (both), north and south
Atlantic (NY-LHR)
Indian both (SYD-HAR-PER)
13. QF, CX, BA. All were awesome, all in the days where 1st was the only place to get a flat (any kind of flat) "bed". I was used to travelling in economy.........wow is all i could think for months afterwards.
14. Climbing off/onto a QF747 (?-200) at HAR
15. Either is fine - newest is best. Actually make that newest interior with quietest engine. Don't care who makes it. Do have a soft spot for 747 though.
16. Not that i know of.
17. See # 16.
18. Landing in HAV second a/c in after Hurricane Ike (2008) was right up there, although into DEN in the driving snow was also up there (1991).
19. No-one will agree but i still like MEL (coming home thing i guess). Overseas anywhere that's not LAX or JFK.
20. Bottle of water
