QANTAS takes A380s out of circulation [and reduces flights]

I'd be happy to be rerouted on EK ex SYD as a replacement for QF1, apart from having to negotiate DXB. The shine of the DXB EK F lounge and transiting there wore off a long time ago.

In fact I'd take the BA flights as well. BA F is analogous to QF F in my opinion.

Girlfriend and I were flying QF1 SIN - LHR May 8th in J award seats

no call yet understandably

this was booked by Qantas after a BNE - HKG reschedule meant we didn’t make a connection, so we were routed BNE - SIN - LHR - AMS instead. It was the only J option they came up with, and had to have manager approval to open the J seats.

Curious, and nervous, to see what they offer - they flat out wouldn’t give us any J seats on other airlines without current J award availability, including EK, after the last schedule change. Perhaps due to the complete cancellation, and the fact we’re going to Amsterdam and have no need for a flight to London, they may just put us on EK for BNE - DXB - AMS
That’s what I would ideally want, and what I kept asking for after the last schedule change.

A little concerned for sure, we booked this trip 280ish days out so we wouldn’t have to sit in economy.

Anyone else booked on QF1 beginning in SIN instead of SYD?

Have you considered calling them to pre-empt the issue? I see someone else here has already done that. We were on qf1 in F on 22 May, so i am anxious to see what they do with our flight as there is no longer any F. I might give them a call to find out too.

Yeah I’ve been considering calling. It’s a hard one, they specifically ask people not to call them on their announcement, but I also don’t wanna be the last one contacted and all the J seats are gone on the day we want to travel.
I’ll probably call closer to the end of the day and request a call back, so I’m able to sit down and talk.

yes, I tried to call them too but after hearing the "please wait until we call you" I decided to wait a bit.

I’m a little hesitant, because there seems to be availability on BA16 to London in J on our day, and I’d rather avoid BA’s atrocious business class if possible.
I'm with you there. Even in F the food on BA was inedible (the time we flew it anyway). Though the cabin crew were good.

How about BA12 operated by A380? Other options from SIN include Finnair...

I’m against BA in general, horrible seats and terrible food

Finnair and Qatar are the two I’d like to get for SIN - AMS if we can’t get BNE to AMS some other way.

SIN to DOH and DOH to AMS are both supposed to be Qsuites in Qatar, and I just like Finnair for some reason.

will have to make the call and see what they’re willing to offer I guess

From SIN there are a few options

EK, QR, KLM, BA, Cathay that I know of.

We have flights from Perth - London and Johannesburg in May and June so keeping a close eye on it, so far I can see heaps of award seats available, about a week ago EK either added a bunch of new flights or had a heap of cancellations as there quite a number of J and F availability.

Taking out all A380s and B787s from MEL-SIN and only putting on A330s leaves a lot of people booked in PE with no alternative flights with that cabin class. I'm affected by this issue for my flights end June returning third week of July.

I guess they will downgrade everyone to Y and give a paltry refund as I doubt they will upgrade to J or re-book onto other carriers with PE. If downgraded they may re-issue tickets with my connecting domestic flights from flex to not-flex so there goes a whole bunch of SCs. ORC will definitely be raised if this occurs.

If they left the A380 on QF35/36 this will solve the problem in accommodating all the PE pax and also allow those going SYD-SIN and not onto LHR on QF1 to route through MEL to SIN which should help fill up an A380.

Watching with growing concern for what happens to my PE booking.

A lot of changes looming but the convo has predicated that other airlines won’t reduce capacity and so.

I’m an interesting scenario of residing in Australia and half way through a Revenue trip with the return leg to Europe with EK (QF Code) in June. Ideally in this scenario, I’d consider taking a cash refund but I’m not sure that’s on offer.....

Others have already reduced capicity, Singapore and Emirates that I know of only as I have flights coming up on them. Pretty sure this is going to be across the board.

SYD pax have QF81/82 which will remain a 330.
The A380 is just too big with the drop in demand, and the 787s are taking over all the longer routes.

Is this an error?

MEL-SIN: B787 replaced by larger A330 on 7 return flights per week (QF 35/36) - 4 May

Currently QF35/36 is an A380.

Looked at some random dates in May and it's a B787, then goes back to an A380 for June/July and after.
So the switch is only for the 787 operated dates?
Looks like the other A380 services besides QF11/12 are QF35/36, if they are grounding 8 of 12 A380s.

If I could suggest, it may take at least another 24 hours for future schedules and aircraft swaps to be finalised in their booking systems. Me thinks it would be too early to start doing searches to try to observe what is or isn't changed/not changed.

IIRC BA12 is down gauged to a 77W

Has it changed again since? I can't keep up:

It's a 777 only between SIN and SYD at least up until end NS20 for dates I've searched. NW20 also showing only as the BA15 service operated by a 777.

Currently QF35/36 is an A380.

MEL-SIN had already been scheduled to go from 380 to 787 in the changes a week ago from 1-April.

Now further downgraded to 330 from 20-April.

Think that means SIN will have no PE either with SYDs QF81/82 being a 330.

Grounding 8 plus 2 in refurb/maint. QF11/12 will be the only A380 route from 20-Apr
