US election 2020

Sanders would be a catastrophic loss, including House and Senate.
Biden supporters would stay home rather than go votes for Sanders.

I think you're right about the House and Senate, which is probably what's driving the party machine concerns. But I'm not convinced that Sanders would easily lose the election, he's tapping into quite a popularist sentiment (the same vein that Trump tapped into), that gets people riled up and out to vote. I've even seen a youtube clip of that well known champion of progessive causes (;) 😁 ) , Tucker Carlson, suggesting that the Republicans need to take Bernie seriously. TBH, if he just focussed on health care, and maybe minimum wage, he'd probably be a less of a threat to the "establishment" and go far.

I'm reading that Biden is a bit short of marbles so Clinton will be behind the scenes. ;)

Seem to recall HC having the same issues 3 years ago... Agree she's behind the scenes, don't think you could get any further behind!

Yes, I saw Tucker saying that - he has a point, as anything can happen in the election.

That said, it appears from articles in leftist newspapers and magazines that it's the view of establishment Democrats that Bernie Sanders would be an electoral disaster.

The Washington Examiner had an article about Hillary Clinton lying in wait for a brokered convention.
Cheers,

After Super Tuesday Bernie must be at long odds to win the nomination.Remember the Democratic Party has 775 "super"delegates who can swing behind the candidate of their choice. They belong mainly to the "establishment".In 2016 they went to H C by a very large margin. So Bernie needs to be leading by a large margin after the primaries to have any hope of the nomination.

Truly terrifying.

It will be interesting to see which of the current crop will be around again in 4 years time.
A number of them are getting pretty long in the tooth, can Biden, Clinton, Sanders and even Warren go around again?

Yeh, and these are no doubt the same ones that had Hilary easily beating Trump in 2016 ! (and that impeachment would actually harm Trump, when it backfired and boosted his popularity).

Biden will be diagnosed with dementia by 2024,Clinton is too easy to attack,Sanders may well have died of his heart disease by then and Warren just doen't excite.

On the Republican side 2 of the younger brigade may well be Nikki Haley and John James if he wins the Michigan senate race in November.

Trump will win, so all this is just entertainment IMHO :)

Warren quits; holding out endorsing anyone (until she gets a good enough offer). How about a Sanders/Warren ticket?

Democratic race: Elizabeth Warren quits but won’t say who she will endorse (The Oz, probably pay-walled)

Elizabeth Warren has quit the presidential race, leaving Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders to fight it out for the Democratic nomination to challenge US President Donald Trump.

Senator Warren on Friday AEDT declined to give her endorsement to either candidate, saying she would take her time to think about who to support.

Her departure comes after poor performances in the primaries, including on Super Tuesday, which left the Massachusetts senator with no viable path to win the nomination.

Her withdrawal is considered a boost for Senator Sanders as she is a fellow liberal and her supporters are considered more likely to gravitate to Senator Sanders, a democratic socialist, than to Mr Biden, a moderate.

Despite this, Senator Warren she said would take her time to decide who to endorse.

“I need some space around this and want to take a little time to think a little more,” she said as she announced her withdrawal in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Interesting article in NYTimes :

“POLL WATCH

Why Warren Supporters Aren’t a Lock to Get Behind Sanders
Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are longtime allies on the left. But her pool of voters generally doesn’t look like his base.”

This is why democracy is now dead. IIRC, it was proven this clip is heavily edited. There is almost nothing we read or hear online that we should not doubt.

It’s been well and truly proven that corruption and lies gets you into power ... and why would the USA be any different?

BTW - I don’t believe for a minute that a significant proportion of the voters actually believe this sort of rubbish. They are just looking for an excuse to cover their real reasons for re-electing Despicable T

Well this weeks events may change the support for Donald. I've seen plenty of commentary (i.e. not just a few biased news sources) that plenty of voters don't like Donald, know he's a liar but yet still vote for him because he's doing well with the economy (or at least is perceived to be). Recent events may be putting some holes in that perception.

No, it's the market's lack of confidence in Democrat nominees, Sleepy Joe and Crazy Bernie, that has caused the stockmarket to tank.
As a theory this would only make sense if the market thinks that Trump will lose, I don't think we are there yet.
