Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

Three ambulances went out to the MEL international terminal and came back with 'pax'. The paramedics I could see were wearing disposable overalls.
How are people getting on planes.

Dry cough or fever are the starting symptoms in most cases it seems. I know it's not much to go on but why chance it and health of others if you'd had those symptoms for more than a passing moment or two before it flight...

Haven't they been in isolation long enough under lock down yet, we already brought 2 plane loads and isolated them successfully. The Min / DFAT said they were stuck there because of their age v UMs and the Chinese won't let them come w' relos who are Chinese citizens.

That would be well meaning, but our health here has to come first, so I'm pleased that Mr Morrison our Prime Minister is acting decisively.

Is this on Thursday 5 March morning?
I sees it, I posts it! :)

Usually via the airbridge or up some stairs to the plane door. 🤪

Seriously though, people are probably still travelliing because of the prevalence of "use it or lose it" fares. Maybe airlines should publicise policies around deferring travel free of change fees if they are showing symptoms. Waivers are in place only for a select few destinations at the moment.

Or people are flying to "just get home". I know thats how I would be feeling, especially if my travel insurance isnt going to cover me.

Not saying its right, just I understand if some do but would hope they wear masks/tell FA/dont even go to the toilet etc.

I know someone that got on a bus for a 5hr drive to a mine site with (some degree) a broken back he suffered whist surfing ..... he did all this so he could fake an accident on the worksite and get compo. Some people will do anything to save or make a $

Didn't mean my prior post as a personal attack on those that choose to fly. I understand the emotional response or reasoning that people come up with in order to fly. Maybe even I would do the same. But if 3 ambulances are needed, it makes one wonder how bad the symptoms were before choosing to board the flight.

Whoa folks, talk about jump to conclusions 2+2=7.5.

So three ambulances left the airport and the conclusion is they are irresponsible people with the black plague who did it deliberately.

Lets wait for some facts, huh

Australia banned arrivals from Korea? I thought that was already in place or did I imagine it?

I can understand people flying to get back into home soil. And because this thing seems to start with minimal symptoms many might not even suspect anything until the impact of flying hits. And I'm betting many people have flown home on a Bali flight over the years, let's just say, not at their best. I know I came home and later tested to have campylobacter.

I love the timing: Qantas brings out its Fly Away Sale for trips to LAX and SFO - and today California has declared a State of Emergency.

(for those unaware, what they have just discovered is that a cruise ship that returned from mexico last month with 2500 pax aboard was carrying coronavirus - the ship then continued to do a lap out to Hawaii before this was known - and is now sitting off the coast of California effectively in quarantine)

I knew SFO had declared a state of emergency. I thought the CA state government had not yet made any moves?

A baby has been diagnosed in SAust. Baby's mother returned from Iran is also positive. A rare baby diagnosis.
I'm not sure if it's that children aren't "immune" to the virus or it's just that they recover from it well. Iran seems to be the issue for Australia now. It will take a fortnight for the full effects of travel from Iran to know if that's been contained.
