Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

I'm a Gold member.

Property: DoubleTree Trieste
Date: February, 3 nights
Rate: Honors member sale
Status: Gold
Booked: Queen Guest Room x 2
Received: King Historical Deluxe Room (for me, the card holder), and King Deluxe Room for my travelling partners. Complimentary breakfast for two, two free bottles of water (I don't usually drink these, but being Italy one of them was sparkling, so I drank that), a complimentary drink at the bar, welcome note, wifi.

The DoubleTree Trieste only opened in November. It's an absolutely stunning building. They spent two years restoring an old insurance building in the centre of the city that had been empty for many years. The room upgrades were very generous. The King Historical Room was so interesting - they've done a good job of retaining the old while introducing the new. The staff are exceptionally nice, polite and helpful. At 83 euros a night, it's very reasonable.

The breakfast was very nice. It was standard Italian breakfast buffet fare, including fruit/yoghurt/cereals; cold cuts and cheese (including a massive wheel of cheese and some divine aged salami); bain marie eggs, bacon and sausages; terrific bread; a spread of cakes and pastries (I love that Italians serve chocolate cake for breakfast!); espresso coffee on request; and... prosecco!

The King Historical room. The bathroom and other new features sort of 'float' in the centre of the room so as not to affect the historical features (like the original parquetry floor and built-in bookcase):

I think I might just go to Trieste just to stay in this hotel. It looks magnificent

I’ll probably return to Trieste to stay in this hotel! It’s a really interesting city. I wish I had more days there. It’s got a fascinating history as a trading port and has many wonderfully preserved historic buildings, castles and forts, as well as terrific seafood. It’s only a few hours by train from Venice (if you’re in that region). From Trieste, can also take a short bus ride to the town of Prosecco for a Prosecco.

Yes. You may see the AAA logo on the back of your motoring organisation card, along with a 3-digit code (e.g. NRMA code is 307, which may need to be quoted during the booking process, but not always).
and the RACQ code is 310. Once when booking I have been asked to input the code

I have it saved in my profile but have found it to disappear occasionally.

I can’t find the RACT code anywhere. The card is no help and the website is a horror show.
Mine is an NRMA card. Has the AAA logo and 307 code on the back. I heard that newer cards may not show this. Can’t help with Tassie. Maybe RooFlyer will know more (has a finger in a lot of pies, and not all scallop. 😉)?

Edit: From the NRMA:

“...8. Affiliated Motoring Clubs.
In Australia, The NRMA is a member of the Australian Automobile Association (AAA). Overseas, we maintain reciprocal arrangements with most motoring organisations in the world. Through our membership of the AAA, we are affiliated to the Alliance Internationale ...”

Does the RACT produce something similar?

And that’s all that is offered to a Diamond member? Some sort of breakfast, proper coffee (although there’s a recent post that the offerings have gone somewhat downhill at this hotel).

Normally at this time there is a line out to the lobby waiting to even get in.

Property: Doubletree by Hilton Melbourne
Date: March 2020
Status: Diamond
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: King Guest Room

New policy from 1st March has removed previous benefits:
- now charging $10 for full breakfast
- no longer issue drinks vouchers

Coupled with the poor upgrade record I can't see there being real benefit for Diamonds over Golds at this property.

The two things I liked about this property, decent breakfast and generous drink vouchers now both canned.
Can’t wait for new Hilton to open, MEL needs it desperately

Perhaps the DT is sitting pretty on occupancy rates and is comfortable in trying it on. Is the coffee tax next?
