Late in December Cashrewards added Liquorland to their list of merchants with in-store cashback. The usual rate is 1%. But there have been several periods of a day or two each time, when the rate increased to 6%, 8% or even 12% (currently applies; ends today).

Depending on what items are stocked at a given Liquorland location, and the competence of the cashier, this has the potential to provide savings at a broader range of merchants. One has to use Visa or MasterCard, but the fewer points may be worth it.

If you haven't already activated in-store cashback through Cashrewards, make sure you do so first.

am I missing something, are you saying that due to liquorland being added, we may get higher cashback at other non liqorland merchants?

One may find that one can purchase a gift card valid at numerous other affiliated stores, at Liquorland, and get cashback to the value of 6% or higher, which compares favourably with other channels for getting those gift cards, most of which also require a paid membership of some kind.

My experience is that many Liquorland locations don't stock these (or any) gift cards, and in most others the cashiers are unaccustomed to selling them and aren't comfortable with the process. But with persistence one may be successful.

Further to this: For the last few days, there's been no in-store cashback for Liquorland (not even the base 1% rate). Maybe they were trialling it and decided against continuing, or maybe it's just gone temporarily.
