Strange seat selection

In the spirit of escalating any situation way beyond the reasonable, you could indulge in mind games to suss out if this is a savvy flier or a strange person. Simply buy a second fully flex refundable ticket, and select 41F as the seat :) Leave that hanging there until the last moment you are comfortable with ditching the ticket.....

(In case you are uncomfortable with this technique, get that decoy ticket in a name such as "Mr John M" or "Dr Roo Flyer")

For now I would play the sort of game we suspect the pax in 41E is playing and move to 42B.
That makes 42A and 42C unattractive to couples and you might have a whole row to yourself if your upgrade doesn't come through.

If you told me the actual date I could ask the upgrade fairy about your chances.

Booking on those names would cause everyone in that front mini cabin to reselect seats in the larger rear cabin ;)

I was actually going to ask this in the upgrade thread today...flight date is Wed 29th Jan QF9 PER->LHR.

So on the assumption the flight isn't full (which is safe given they've openly said to be restricting loads) then the Y cabin won't be densely packed and not many more will be joining in on the flight in Y, either.

Upgrade fairy says you should have no problems at all. Even if you were not WP.

So looking relatively good for an upgrade to J. I'm very tempted to moved to 42B. I feel worst case scenario is someone selects 42A or C I should still be able to move myself to another aisle seat somewhere with a free centre seat. Decisions decisions....

I'm flying on QF9 PER-LHR next week in Y as a WP. At the time off booking (several months ago) I selected 41D. I'm an aisle kinda guy. I figure a centre aisle is my best option as if there is someone in the middle seat there is a good chance they'll be travelling with someone in the other aisle seat and bother their travel companion rather than me to get out. Worst case its only a 50% chance and only one person. Selecting a window based aisle seats means up to two people with need to get out.

When I sleected 41D both 41E and 41F were empty. So a nice empty row. A few days ago I logged on and noticed the seat next to me 41E was taken and 41F empty. Initially I thought perhaps a WP shadow. Logging on to EF I see this

Has someone really decided they want 41E and to sit in a middle seat?! Seems a bit odd.

Now the dilemma of what do I do? I'm expecting a light load in Y due to QF needing to drop numbers to avoid Iran/Iraq airspace. Do I wait it out? Hope my J upgrades comes through? Row 43 in front of the toilets doesn't seem very desirable. I could move to 53 but I like the mini cabin.

I could risk 42C and hope I get the to myself. Or do I play it safe and go 42F knowing that 42E is likely to remain empty, but then no chance of a row of 3 to myself. I wonder if a call to QF to see if they are able to block a couple of seats might be an option given we know the Y cabin won't be full?

Yes, tackling the big issues today....but at least folkds on AFF understand this :)
Hi - i have spotted similar things in the past - and wondered if they had blocked the seat due to my WP status ? Is that what you mean by shadow ?
just to understand - blue is a taken seat ? what is the P and X please

X means the seat is not assigned to a pax but the airline has blocked the seat from being selected. P means unassigned and only available for selection to pax with status.
