So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Well I know what car I'm not driving after yesterday's hail storm of doom. The whole work carpark was full of cars damaged like this :(

I have always wondered if car dealer hail damage clearance sales are worth it
I think the hail damage has to be fixed before you can get comprehensive insurance.

Good friends of ours had their fairly new but second hand Ford Everest totalled in yesterday's hail too. They're covered too. It must have been terrifying.

Neighbour's car has a few dents, parked at Campbell yesterday, not enough to write it off, not enough to fix and pay the excess.

Do car dealers fire-sale hail damaged cars?. If you know the cost of repairs some priced might be a good deal.

+1's car was written off a couple of years ago due to hail damage, an old Hyundai.
On the plus side the insurance company said we could keep the car so have effectively been driving a freeby for a couple of years. There's nothing wrong with it except for the dents.

A friend of mine bought his car back from the insurance company after they wrote it off due to hail damage.

He is not able to get comprehensive insurance for it. It is nicknamed 'the golfball'.

So after the intial call where the person I spoke didn't know where Canberra was (I suspect some overseas call centres were brought on board to help with the deluge of calls), I got a call from a company for a windscreen repair. I was booked in for 14th of February. Called back the insurance people and spoke to someone else and explained the situation. So now I'm to expect a call from a tow company in the next few days, with the car off to an assessment centre. And we're picking up a hire car first thing Sunday morning.

Poor car is still in the work carpark, but at least the carpark inspectors know not to ticket the damaged cars since so many people are waiting on tows.

Have you had anything looted from it?

I'm very much a car person,

At the moment I'm with a 370z white MY09.

how about you guys?
I'm more of a bloke than a guy, being Australian. Having owned two 1966 Coopers Ss and a 1966 MGB plus a 1969 Monaro GTS 327, from new, I am not a fan of Japanese sports cars, although I was tempted by the Honda S800.

I got that new care feeling over Christmas, the old work truck got a wash, first time in nearly 4 years, the replaced the steel wheels with bald tyres with a set of alloys (5) that had 4 new tyres from a local wrecker for about the same cost as 4 new tyres. I needed new tyres so the alloys were a bonus. These days it only travels about 1500-2000 km per year so these improvements will keep me going for a while. I also planned to give it another wash this month but that may not happen. :)

What a car! My best mate had one of these in the late 80's and I have many fond memories of cruising around the streets and getting up to no good. He still bangs on about that car. Also, out of respect, I refuse to say "the Mon-air-o Highway" here in CBR.

Thanks for taking an interest, Happy Dude. It was the top of the range Monaro, March '69, bur didn't even have a radio, and air con for cars was extremely rare and not even available as an option.
Fancy red-lined cross-ply tyres, although I wore them out with a couple of laps at Surfers' Gardens, which still existed in those days, and tearing down the runway at the old Brisbane Airport. The car was supposed to do 122 mph, but it did have a Smiths tacho and I believe the 115 from a standing start was conservative.
Whoever got PLA434 did very well

Did you ever drive a Honda S2000? I haven't owned one but have driven and thought it was great. Problem for me was the doors seemed a bit short to get my not so agile body in and out.

With the change in the import laws we should start to see more of the S660 Kei cars! Very small and fun.
