This thread is a place to share tips and recommendations for stopovers at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Bali, Indonesia. You can discuss things like:
  • How to get from the airport to the city
  • Things to do (both near the airport and in the city)
  • Where to stay/hotel recommendations (both near the airport and in the city)
  • Your favourite DPS airport lounges
  • Airport facilities such as luggage storage and showers
  • Any other destination-specific tips or "hidden gems" you've discovered that could be useful for someone stopping over

Do you have a great tip that other travellers might find useful when stopping over in Denpasar? Add your suggestions to this thread, and your advice could make it into an AFF Stopover Guide article!

I'm currently in the Premier Lounge and all I can say is it's hot and stuffy even with portable airconditioning units
all around. I'll check out the Taurus Gemilang lounge next week...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The Harris hotel nearby is good for a Transit. They do a 6 hour rate for around $45.
as for the lounges - there is two side by side (?) I prefer the one on the Right. They have a shower, cost around $7 extra, and the pasta guy cooks your meal while you wait and brings it to you.

Just as hot and stuffy in the Taurus Gemilang lounge even with portable airconditioning units all around. Unlike the Premier Lounge, there is a charge for towel in the shower...

When I stayed there (Harris hotel) during a DPS transit night I had to go ask for a can of "anti nyamuk" (mozzie spray) to kill the 50 or so little b*stards in the room.
Other than that (and clearing out of the room for 20 minutes afterwards due to the fumes) it was fine, including pickup shuttle driver waiting at arrivals with name sign, but reckon I'd spring for the Garden Inn or Novotel next time, especially if it was a greater than 8 hrs transit. Rooms at those two are generally $90-110 if booked in advance.

And the HGI at DPS is often available for 5,000 Hilton points. 😀

Yes I agree with the Hilton Garden Inn. Whilst I haven't used it for a stopover, when arriving for a holiday in the evening rather than traipsing through traffic to the next destination. Over the road for the first night for 5k Hilton points is pretty good value.

Haven't been to the lounges in years, so not sure what they're like.

If a stopover was to happen during the day, it really is very close to the beach if one wanted to do a swim.

Are these places close to the airport ?
Looking at doing a status run may with probably one or two nights in Denpasar.
Which hotels and any must see sights
Bali isn't a place I have looked into much
(I lived in eastern suburbs of Sydney in 2002)

The places mentioned are close to the airport, but if you are staying a couple of days and not arriving late at night I wouldn't recommend them Must see places depends upon your tastes really - Waterworld by way of example would interest some but not most. Hotels are many and varied also.
