Interesting blog entry. Once you get past the introductory stuff and into the Qantas related part.

...
How similar that scenario is to Qantas’ current predicament.

The difference being that Qantas has already found itself setting off down the slippery slope, having failed to deliver core services suitably for many months now, let its engineering standards slip, and started to become more exposed to competition from better rivals on core routes it once had to itself. That’s not to mention the almost weekly embarrassments broadcast on TV of planes tumbling through the clouds or maintenance clowns towing 747s into each other...

Some informed stuff but some misinformation, also some personal coughing at the end:
... Curious to see Qantas launching a short term three-day promotion last Friday offering two-for-one deals on international flights. It cant have proven a great success, because on Monday it was extended a day. And at the time of writing - Wednesday - it appeared to be STILL running, with an ad on the carrier’s website. ...
On Monday afternoon it was "extended" for another 48 hours ... not "a day".

FWIW, a source tells me that it was always intended to be a five-day sale; the initial 72 hour advertised was to encourage weekend 'panic buying'.

I don't doubt it at all. Most (but not all) of the sales seem to get extended. It's just hard to work out which one!

Rather standard marketing for any company i would think, get people to think its only for a limited time.

And sometimes QF has sales that cover peak travel times. Most domestic sales in the past few months covered the period up to early December and then starting again from mid-January. Now the time around Christmas and New Year is on sale after I had purchaed all my airfares thinking that they would not have a sale during peak travel times.

Is QF likely to have a domestic sale for the Easter period? This time I am going to wait and find out....
