I've not read the article. While companies that reach a new high deserve to be congratulated, in QF's case in 2007 at one stage the share price reached A$6.28 or so, and today closed at A$6.83 so if we did a 'share price versus CPI' calculation, on the face of it not great, but any dividends need to be factored in.

On the plus side, there has been a recent share buyback that can be positive for a share price; on the minus side, there was a period - quite a while - when dividends were not paid. IIRC at one stage shareholders complained about this.

And a certain AFF member (not me) who bought at just over $1 about 6 years ago would be laughing now, if still holding them.

Probably the biggest impact on airline profitability is the crude oil market.
If he can control that he's worth every cent ;^)
