QF Double Status Credit Promos - I am not 100% sure I follow the logic anymore...

A different perspective....the DSC promos encouraged me to travel QF.
I probable did than expected.

Same sentiment here @mrsterryn . I've done a lot more international (self-funded) travel on QF just because of DSC. Otherwise, I could've used other OW carriers for a much cheaper fare.

Yes, that is an issue. My next international trip probably won’t be at least till around the Northern Hemisphere summer next year.

It suggests to me that QF want short term revenue... and it is a bit unusual to include Dec/Jan travel, which is usually well booked out and heavy demand season which possibly says something about how forward bookings are looking....

And I did not say they were not in my novella above. I was merely suggesting that it's a relative few who feel this way and indeed would go out of their way to book QF, even at higher prices, ONLY for the benefit of status (as opposed to booking to make use of status benefits, which is a whole other argument, though both can of course apply to one booking)

I'd say to those conetmplating... go enjoy SQ, or QR or EY or whoever you fancy for your travels.... the experiences will be different, probably better, and heck it may induce a bone thrown your way from QF down the line. Maybe.

Have to agree with you on this.

Have had a few flights on SQ, EK, EY - enjoyed all of them. Loved the food, the seats and also the service.

For instance, the service on EY and EK were more middle-eastern'ly ... the lounges were much better, food options resembling more *curry*, *spicy*, *biriyani* types

Loved the meals on SQ - my eyes widened up, so did my smile, when I had the "pongal, vada and idly" on SQ from MAA-SIN

We are retirees who have booked a Qantas/Finnair rtw flights early 2020 purely because of great Finnair sale. In this case price was the determining factor.

I am currently gold and would love to make P for one year at least. If there was a double sc sale I would be able to justify the expenditure to reach that level. However without a double sc promotion I will be happy to remain at gold. I will only book these flights if there is a double sc promotion.

I am sure I am not alone and would have thought that Qantas is noticing a decrease in sales due to the lack of double sc promotions.

I'm in the EXACT same boat. I'm currently QF Gold and have enough to stay Gold until Dec 2020. But would like to see what's in QF Platinum for once.

If no DSC's come up, I'd be happy to stay where I'm and not have any justification to spend $$

How would QF know that a particular punter's lack of bookings BECAUSE of lack of DSC?

to the bean counters, or more likely their automated systems - CRM/ Business Intelligence whatever you want to call it... it could be for any number of reasons including general economic downturn causing a lack of discretionary spend.

While a human may look at a history of bookings tied to earn under previous promotions and think "hmmm" it may not be immediately obvious given general economic conditions and an overall slowing in demand by travellers.

It may result in a targeted promotion though.

Qantas don't need to know about particular punters to make it financially worthwhile to Qantas.

When Qantas hold a DSC offer, they will know that it results in, for example, $1 million additional revenue booked by people who registered for the promotion.

And even if Qantas did need to know whether individual punters respond to DSC offers, that wouldn't be particularly hard to determine.

Look at past booking history: has this customer used a DSC offer before?

Look at consequences of a customer's use of a DSC offer: did this customer go up a status level due to the DSC offer?

Not much to be honest. It is like the WP who use DSC and get to WP1 for a year and then are underwhelmed at what that level has to offer.

Perhaps QF have seen that targeted offers have given them much finer control with a reasonable payback to them in terms of increased sales.

I realise that Qantas may blame the economic downturn for a decrease in bookings. However I am surprised that is that is the case they would not do everything possible to increase the bookings!

I think you're absolutely right that it is unlikely to push people to do more international travel, but I would speculate it is more likely to push people to book international travel with Qantas. Say you are a regular international economy flyer. The benefits of WP over SG are pretty significant -- F lounge, increased priority for points upgrades, better seat selection, etc.

If you get to SG (but not WP) without DSC offers, you might be inclined to shop around after you reach SG each year. Eg try Malaysian, Qatar, Emirates, Cathay, American in economy instead.

Absolutely agree.

And this is why the lack of a general promo by now suggests to me there won't be one anytime soon because perhaps QF are using other tools (targeted promos, sales, etc) and feel that is enough for now.

They may also have decided that cheapening of tatus via global promos has had an adverse effect

or heck, maybe bookings are looking healthier than one might imagine. The lack of big sales recently may indicate that. Hard to know obviously.

I hope there is a DSC offer. If there is one that covers domestic I expect to make at least one booking, maybe multiple bookings.

I think they might be taking the overcrowded lounges a little more seriously.

Haven't seen a Qantas Club sale either for a while.

Qantas, here's a simple way to stimulate sales. Drop the ridiculously high airfares and people may start to fly again. I said it in another thread. PER-BNE for $384 one-way. Seriously?
