Qantas A380 refurbishment news and updates.

I had never thought about this before, but I wonder if there's anything to stop people from PE sneaking into the new lounge. With such a large J cabin (70 people), it would be hard for the cabin crew to keep track of who is entitled to be there.

As predicted / reported, minimal changes in First. Was hoping that they would at least replace the clunky brick touch control with something more modern.

Also looks as if they have kept the side bins on the upper deck which is great.

All that faux wood. Seems to me the engineers had a cheeky rummage through the Emirates parts bin ;)

May not be too far from the truth. Every part on an aircraft including trim pieces, needs an official part number. It can save money to use the same parts already certified and qualified by other airlines.

It’s hard to tell in the photo but there is a replacement for the controller in First.

Looks like the side bins are still in place

Indeed. Which makes those seats a long way from the window and creates what seems to me to be a very awkward space between the storage area and the windows. But I know others love the side bins.

Maybe entry to the lounge will require you to don your PJs, that'll keep the riffraff out. It's funny watching the regular business flyers lining up to put their PJs on even before the plane's taken off!

you need those storage bins for your shoes. They don't fit in the foot-hole once the bed is out, and if they're next to the bed, they might roll away and you'll never find them again. That's with the Dreamliner fit out.

The A380s ARE ugly, especially compared with the 747s. They have a big blunt forehead, and look like whales. And Business and PE were so much more spacious. These airbuses are well-named, although they're taking the layout from the 787, poverty-pack.

I was really disappointed with PE in the Dreamliner (and had a peek through the curtains into my old territory of economy, and just saw a solid wall of rumpled, angry-looking people). I used to fly back and forth in my ski instructing days, and economy on the 747 was bearable, window seat meant a wall to wedge your cushion against and you might even get all 3 seats as a bed although that became a rarer thing as they started to really pack their planes.

Looks like new toiletries pouches in business.. for a moment I wondered if they were going to put everyone in PJs with big pink flowers on them, but looks like slightly paler grey PJs underneath. I collect those pouches, and adore the Aboriginal dot painting one of the communications tower in the desert.

Nothing like watching a herd of Eastern Greys hesitantly emerging at varying intervals before feeding time. Love those kangaroo suits. :p

That would prevent people who don't use or accept the PJs, like me, from using the lounge.

I've seen a customer wearing QF PJs shopping at work before.

I wonder if those side bins are still usable, or if they've been sealed closed (like some bins have been on the 747s).
They might not be useful now for the seats in this photo, but the alternate seats where the seat and bench are reversed, the seat would be directly next to the bin.
