I see ruby has priority seating on AA, does that mean I line up with the other allowed to board first.

cheers,

Priority seating or priority check in?

As far as I am aware Oneworld Ruby allows priority check in, which means lining up in business class queues to check in, but not priority seating where you can pre-allocate seats in the forward part of the cabin.

Prioriity boarding is not a benefit of Oneworld Ruby. This benefit is only for Oneworld Sapphire and above.

Yes they let golds board first or second group. Can help to flash your QC card, often mistaken for someting special.Of course it also lets you get into the Admiral's clubs and to get free drink vouchers there.

As a OW Ruby, you should be assigned (iirc) to GROUP 1 on the boarding pass which is the same as AA Gold members. Will then be able to board after pre-board of 1st/business/EXP and Platinum

As a OW Ruby traveling on AA, your boarding pass should have "Priority Access" written on it which enables you to use the premium security line and the dedicated priority access boarding line. As stated by Dave you are usually called after 1st/business/EXP and Platinum pax but the last few flights I've been on they have called for all priority pass pax straight after 1st class pax. Just depends on the agent.

I usually find I just end up with GROUP X according to where I'm sitting- I've been a QF gold for a few years now and only rarely has it said SAPPHIRE on the boarding pass. Could because I'm usually travelling on QF codeshares on AA and the system doesn't register it. At least once I've gone to the gate with my FF card and they said "well, what does it say on your boarding pass?" in line with the "great" service I've come to expect from AA!

I was wondering about the seating thing though- I see AA has the new priority seating at the front of Y but it doesn't let you book this unless you are an AA tier member it seems. I'm QF plat at the moment and I tried going into the AA site for my next trip (and the flights ticketed AND operated by AA this time) but doesn't allow it. Seems strange.

That means your FF number is not correctly entered into the AA booking. When done correctly; as a WP your BP should show EMERALD.

This priority seating is not new - Certain seats, including exit row seats, have long been reserved for AAdvantage elites. it's been around for a few years at least. What IS new, is that these seat are now shown to all (except for exit rows) when selecting seats, it just that only AA elites can select them.

FWIW, This thread actually about boarding, however you can try calling AA for seating; unlike BA, their web site does not currently recognise non AAdvantage oneworld Emeralds for seat selection. i.e. An AA Plat can select exit row seating online.
