China Eastern Delays/Cancellations

MU561 from PVG to SYD overnight ex the mainland Chinese commercial centre on Saturday 6 July (A359 B-304N) diverted to MEL, presumably due to fog in SYD as other flights such as PR211 also did so. It took off from MEL at 1117 hours so should be in SYD at about 1230 compared to scheduled arrival of 0900 hours.

MU711 from Hangzhou (HGH) landed at SYD this morning at 09:58, 138 behind schedule.

Saturday 10 August 2019 has thus far seen most aircraft use the east-west runway, meaning delays.

MU750 from SYD to WUH (A332 B-8226) is the 1120 hours that was at 1238 about to take off, so it is at least 40 late.

Sunday 11th of August sees the red-eye MU561 PVG-SYD cancelled.

The red-eye MU737 PVG-MEL is delayed to depart at 12 00, 945 min behind schedule. This suggests that the return leg MU738 has a revised departure at 1 00, 840 min tardy. This new departure time is far from ideal.

On Monday 12 August, MU749, the 1915 hours WUH - SYD Sunday night (11) that took off at 2141, is arriving at a suggested 0940 hours, two hours late with A332 B-5943.

It was worse than Silvia had predicted, with MU738 departing MEL at 0506 hours on Monday 11 August and taking off at 0520 for estimated PVG arrival at 1327 this afternoon.

MU737 looks to be operating as 'MU737A' - presumably 'A' for 'altered' - with B789 B-1111 on this 2015 hours PVG - MEL of Sunday 11 August not airborne until 0012 on Monday 12, so arrival is 1158 hours, 178 late.

MU792 (1030 hours SYD - NKG, Tuesday 12 August 2019 with A332 B-5952) took off at 1215 so will be at least 55 minutes tardy arriving.

Saturday 31 August's redeye from PVG down to MEL, MU739 (A332 B-5936), the 0020 hours, took off at 0057. Arrival is likely at 1328, 48 late. Going back, MU740 has a scheduled departure at 2130 tonight so it should be unaffected.

MU791, the Monday 16 September 2019 scheduled 2100 hours from NKG down to SYD (A332 B-5941) took off at 2250 so on Tuesday 17, arrival is at 1132 hours, 182 minutes tardy.

Sunday 13th of October sees MU777 KMG-SYD (A333 B-5921) with a suggested ararival at 16 27, 102 min behind schedule.

MU792 (Saturday 23 November's 1130 hours SYD up to NKG, A332 B-5975) departed at 1201 hours and took off to the south at 1222, so arrival is delayed to an expected 1918, 54 late.

I wish they’d be permanently delayed for a while.

Remains to be seen whether there'll be fewer flights from mainland China, ad if so for how long. No publicity yet about this so far (except QFi's statement yesterday that it may - not will - bring forward its 9 February end to PEK and PVG flights.)

On Monday 3 February, the arriving MU739 from PVG (due in at 1405 hours in the afternoon) has been cancelled as coronavirus continues to bite.

MU735 from PVG down to SYD (timetabled arrival is 1335 hours) has also been given the flick.
