Hi, hope some members can help me confirm this.

In a couple of weeks I fly into SIngapore on QF1 arriving at 2215. I then will transfer to Japan Airline JL38 at 0150 later that evening (early next day) to Tokyo.

I will not have a boarding pass for the JAL flight. Will the transit counter at Changi provide one ? Also, would Qantas in Sydney check my luggage right thru to Tokyo ?

What lounge would still be open, or your recommend, as i wait for the JAL flight ?

Thank you

You will be able to get JL boarding pass at transit counter in T1 at SIN . Is one of the ticket paid and one an award ticket? That is the only scenario under which QF will through check from SYD. If not, then the transit desk should be able organise bags to be retagged and sent on to Tokyo.

If you're eligible, you should still be able to access both the BA and QF lounges (almost next door to each other) before they close and then move on to the DNATA lounge...

Thanks. Both tickets are paid in full and in Business Class. So Qantas will check the luggage through to Tokyo under that scenario ?

PS But under different bookings. So maybe I have to clear immigration at Singapore ?
If your bags are not checked through to Japan, upon arrival at Singapore stay airside.

Go to a Transfer Desk with both tickets, any boarding passes and checked bag stickers . They will locate your luggage, retag it and transfer it to the Japan flight. You won't see it.

Thanks Serfty, that would help a lot. At least Qantas and JAL are in terminal 1. I won't have the JAL boarding pass though. The Transfer Desk will provide that ?

I would greatly appreciate some help here:

Flying with check-in baggage.
Arriving via JL into SIN at 6:15am at Terminal 1

Next flight is via Silkair on a separate award ticket at 8:05am in Terminal 2

Question:
1. Will I make it to the Silkair flight?
2. Do I have to clear immi, collect my bags to re-checkin or will the Silkair transfer counter at Terminal 2 able to do it?

Thanks in advance.

@Aeolus assuming JL flight is on time you'll have plenty of time. On arrival head to MI transfer counter with passport and luggage tag. They'll issue boarding pass and manually transfer luggage.

Personally I wouldn't do it in case there's a delay and you miss the MI check-in time.

Yes always a risk especially with only a 1:50 connection. There is a little bit of fat in there for delays, but not a lot. But OP might be lucky, looking at last dozen arrivals on that flight, only one arrived on time. Of the other 2 were about 15 mins early and the rest at least 30mins early. The check in for SilkAir closes at 7:25, 70 mins after scheduled arrival of JL flight.

Many thanks for replying, @JohnK and @dajop. I’ve done the trip, ended up calling MI and they informed me that it was JL that I need to talk to. Anyway the JL first class counter at HND was very helpful. I gave them the MI flight details and online boarding pass and they checked me all the way through to the final destination even though MI is not a partner airline. When I got to Terminal 2 in SIN I went to MI counter to give them the luggage check through details (just letting them know, they didn’t have to do anything) and the baggage followed me to the final destination and even came out first as it had the JL priority tag. Just thought I’ll share this in case someone else need this info in future.

Hi @Aeolus, so did you have to clear customs to go Terminal 2 at Changi?
I'm looking at a transit connection time of 2 hours with separate tickets: JL J HND - SIN arriving Terminal 1 at 5.30pm then MH J SIN-KUL at 7.30pm departing Terminal 2.
Was it easy for you to get JL to check the luggages through?

No, I didn’t have to clear customs, I just went to the MI transfer desk in SIN to inform them that JL at HND has done the onward baggage transfer for them and gave them the tag details.
OW to OW should be far easier. If you’re OWE, speak nicely to the F checkin, show them your MH OLCI details and they should be able to check you through all the way. The check in staff did OW to *A for me which I thought was incredibly resourceful.

Thanks @Aeolus. I've also read that JL might be able to check in the MH flight for me since they are OW member.
what a relief, 2 hour transit through changi should be ok since i dont have to go through immigration.
