Qantas Platinum One experiences?

To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

The cynic in me thinks maybe one reason for the email is that the people who may or may not monitor these forums would have seen your AFF relationship status go from "Married" to "It's Complicated" and putting out some feelers?

(translaton: anyone who spent a cursory amount of time on here recently would know your feelings on QF and how you've had a gut ful).

Well, after almost three months of not touching QF, I just received an email from the P1 team. I wont cut and paste the actual words, as I respect privacy, even in emails from a company. But essentially it said that they had noticed my absence and were wondering if everything was ok. Not a bad email - even though it did not feel personal, the content was not demanding or silly.

I am not one who happily ignores something, so pondering if/what to reply. My feelings about QF are very complicated at the moment :)

I too received a similar email from the SST last year, having stopped flying QF due to their indifferent service on multiple sectors thru Singapore flying First as a P1. They did respond to my reply, mostly with excuses and not an apology is my recollection.
I did subsequently fly QF to LHR in First as a P1 in April this year, no recognition/service on the outbound journey to/in Singapore but First Host did meet me at the aircraft door in LHR (to confirm they'd rescheduled my CD to allow me time to use the AA Arrivals Lounge. On the inbound journey in Singapore they did lay on the full service, First Host met me at the aircraft door, escort to lounge, arranged shower then escorted to reserved seating, then escorted back to the aircraft including thru security & boarding gate....if only that was the experience all the time things would be good.

cheers

An op-up (rather than a P1 upgrade) presumably due to over sold Y.
QF1756 BNE/CNS 8/7

I checked the seat map where I was in 4D with 4EF occupied. (4E only got occupied in past few hours).

Checked to see if seats were still being sold ... funnily enough Y red edeals and flexi unavailable ... yet J paid fares and J reward seats still available at T-4 hrs.

Got to airport to find I'm moved to 2C!

Surprisingly that's 2 free upgrades in the past few weeks on this route (on red e-deals) . The only advantage of these 717s I guess.

Got a shadow on MEL-CBR on row 4, and upgrade from row 4 to 1C on CBR-MEL. Bit of a waste on such a short trip, but as it was my 1st month of P1, I appreciated it :)

Also got the NGV dinner in Melbourne, that was quite nice as well.

This may have been answered already. Does anyone know of P1s receiving a soft landing down to WP after not having attained even WP the next membership year?

I just don't get how that could work practically all the time given there are 14 F seats each way.
Or do you mean as a P1 this is the expected additional service?

As a P1 travelling F I wouldn't be interested in this level of service .... I'm more interested/focused on the service delivered at the lounge entrance and aircraft door. IMO Qantas need to focus on these things rather than useless chitchat on long walks.

When I dropped from P1 a couple of years back Mrs A who had been Gold in her own right for several years didn't make it to silver when she was WP so they dropped her back to Bronze. Perhaps this is changed and that is a change for the better.

Yeah agree didn't need the chit chat, but being met at the AC door was nice, more important was being escorted within the lounge, showers etc, and back through the security & boarding gate scrums. Maybe for P1 in F (& CL), they could put us on a cart or 2 similar to what they use for less mobile passengers, and give us a ride between the AC, the lounge and back to the AC....gate c25 is quite a distance from the lounge.

cheers

Re F/P1 experiences. Like everything with QF for me it's been "consistently inconsistent" - in SIN lounge wise they were great to me, and in HKG once they realised I was P1 (flying J at the time) they definitely made a minor fuss. At other locations frankly it's been almost non existant (which doesn't bother me, to be honest). eg: doing MEL-LAX v.v. a number of times really nothing special. No specific F experience (but I did not request anything) or priority at the restaurant or anything. Now don't get me wrong, I think for the spa I would have gotten some sort of priority, but I never do that so have no personal experience to back that up with.

The one time I had F host meet me at the a/c door was off QF94 LAX-MEL because my bag had gone AAmiss and been rerouted via BNE so she let meknow, escorted me through immigration(well smartgate :p ) and to bag claim to note some details, then out through express lane all in about 15 minutes. I was quite impressed by that, but honestly I think that was because I was in F, not because I was P1 (though it was noted on the paperwork I got).

(incidently that same F host was boarding a MH flight a few months back and recognised me.. that was kind of nice)_

but most other trips.. very little to make the experience any different to either a WP flying or just a F pax.

It appears to me that P1 is a hit/miss affair. My experiences seem to back this up. When it works it's great, but you wouldn't want to count on it. Given the renewal requirements are triple those for WP it'd be nice to have some certainty.
I just blew 20,000 points on J upgrades for Miss Nutwood and myself. Looking at the empty J seats, I realised that we'd have been upgraded free of charge if I hadn't applied. I don't actually mind the spirit of gamble, but given the $'s invested to achieve P1?!
Every time I queue in a "premium service" lane, I contemplate the difference in the flying required to achieve 250 SC's ( silver renewal) V 3600 SC's (P1 renewal)!

I just received the "we haven't seen you in a while" email. Yes, that's right. I've retired, and stopped flying regularly. No more frequent QF F returns from to LHR and LAX for me. The only thing crediting to QF are some minor credit card points still accruing on my AU credit cards. I earned enough SC to reach WP in my own right for 2020, but after that it will be back to LTG for me.

I'm still getting P1 service though - I was able to get F award seats released on SYD-LAX-SYD, for which I was very appreciative.

Thanks for the all past comments on this thread, it has given me a extra snapshot into some tips and tricks.
After 2 months, I'm yet to receive any event invites, or experience an opt up, and I don't seem to ever have a shadow but I can say that I really enjoy having the SST to contact (via email especially) and the ability to fly forward. Most of my travel is domestic, so for me these two elements are the most rewarding. I've been WP for 5yrs+ and 90% of the time always got row 4 by seat selecting T-80, it is nice however to have this seat locked in upon booking now. Looking forward to testing out the upgrade request success on the some upcoming Asia travel too Any other tips and tricks from other P1 members is greatly appreciated?

Welcome to AFF and the rather underwhelming P1 Club!

Chalkie, after also dropping QF travel this year, and getting that "haven't seen you" email, I must confirm that that seems to be the extent of their care factor.

It actually feels bizarre this year - am P1 but not flying QF :) How can we interpret that status reality ??

Excellent achievement Sangelico :) The P1 team (SST) are really good at support. That is really the main strength of P!. Domestically it is not much help. The invites, well, I have averaged an invite every two years, so your 2 months are a tad hopeful :) But if you are travelling international then the SST behind you is awesome.
