2019 Federal Election Discussion

I thought that polling places were only able to issue absent votes for districts within their own State/Territory. I don't think that a polling place in Queensland will be able to issue a ballot paper for a South Australian district.

In particular, we have to keep the Senate ballot paper in mind. Polling places don't carry interstate Senate ballot papers, and there's no way they could write one out. Voters who are interstate on election day would need to vote at a dedicated interstate voting facility, by postal vote, or by pre-poll in their home state.
For voting on election day:

All polling places have ballot papers for every electorate in that state. The blank form are only for those same state electorates if we run out of printed ones.

Only the larger polling places will have them for interstate electorates. If you go to one of the smaller ones you will be directed to the nearest place where interstate voting can occur.

I am lucky as I no longer need child care as it is prohibitively expensive with staff under paid and therefore under trained. I am also lucky I can afford my own dental care, which is not the case for very many people. And, if figures are correct that '50% of older people having gum disease', it is going to cost the general health system dearly.

But how many of that 50% will be eligible. And there is free dental service anyway, just need to wait a while. I know mum received it.

Child care costs. I didn’t use it much when kids were young. I appreciate that kids need a safe environment but when child care became such a centre of learning as opposed to safety and care, and thus required staff to have Tertiary training then it was always going to put it in a place where people couldn’t easily afford it.

Child care can be expensive. 16 years ago when we were living in Sydney with one toddler and one baby, it was costing >$35k in after tax dollars.

We have one more year of PS fees to go..... man has that time flown!

A large portion of child care is operated by not for profit organisations.

G8 would be one of the larger stock market listed operators of for profit childcare.
Goodstart is one of the larger "not for profit" operators of childcare.
Eddy Groves operated ABC for a while. Those properties are now owned in a CharterHall vehicle listed as CQE.

It’s only free for healthcard holders. Self funded older people are not eligible.

Dental care is interesting. I don’t think it’s just low income earners who put off going to the dentist but pretty much most people. So I’m not sure that a dental package actually answers the problem as to why people avoid going to the dentist.

The days of inspirational leaders are long gone. All very insipid these days.
