DEFT still charging 1.5% - is that still allowed?

Easy Bill Pay looks interesting. Does anyone know when making credit card payment to EBP whether these are charged as a credit card purchase vs cash withdrawal? Are there any charges for EBP?

Processed as a cc purchase. Charges should still be listed on the site. It's 0.8% after the first $1,000/month - unless someone has negotiated less?

Much cheaper than DEFT charges. I will check but assume 0.8% charge applies to Amex as well.

Keen to hear of others’ experiences in negotiating less especially how much volume they’d have to put through to get that rate.

Another way to avoid hefty cc surcharge to pay DEFT bill is to use Au Post, not effective way, but cheaper than 1.5%.

MC & Visa only. I wish it included Amex esp at 0.8%.
I just tried to sign-up with my Amex and it wouldn't allow me to sign-up. It doesn't list anywhere in the FAQs what credit card types they do/don't take so I've Facebook messaged them to ask for confirmation.

DEFT charge 1.5% for Visa & MC so even if you were transferring $100,000 the Easy Bill Pay would only save you $700 and you'd have 100k points vs 125k points with the Amex Ultimate Card (after the new rewards points come into affect). Maybe it's better to go Visa/MC and save the $$$. $700 for 25k points isn't exactly a good return.

I think it would be possible using BPay via EBP.
Is this confirmed / is anyone doing this? I am forced to pay rent via DEFT so would be great to be able to use CC with lower fees rather than just the months i have a new CC and cop the deft fees for the min spend bonus points.

I think you'd better use Westfield cards to pay in post office, it's still cheaper than surcharge.

Westfield dislike using their cards in PO so much so that the staff have the fear of god drummed into them not to accept payments on the Westfield card. I recall using it once and the cashier only noticed after I pressed enter and she looked concerned and frantically tried to cancel it (was too late) then she went and spoke with a supervisor. Not worth the grief.

Interesting, though auspost is not really a time/practical option for us. Just keen to minimize the fee for rent if possible and sounded like was implying could be done with EBP..

EBP would be ideal then as long as you’re not intending to use Amex. They only work with MC/Visa and as @Xizor said in his post, first $1000 per month is fee free :)

Thanks guys, really informative. Yeah just Visa/MC usually. Will be new to EBP but in DEFT they have their own biller account details, and it seems my biller for the rent only accepts bank acc or credit card as sources. Bpay does not seem available. Am i up the creek or can i still use EBP for Deft somehow?

Bank account = bank transfer I am pretty sure. So BSB and account number.

I am about to set this up tonight for my real-estate agent so I assume it'll work fine.

So EBP provide you with an account number and bsb to use? Sorry, i dont have an account with EBP yet.

What a loser!

At one PO I used 3 Westfield cards in a row and then had swiped my 4th and just before the transaction went through, she cancelled it then demanded to see the card, at which point she yelled at me that what I was doing was "illegal". Such ignorant fools.

No - I've just setup my account right now. (screenshot of "adding a bill" screen).

So I enter my credit card details. And then I enter the bank details of the real estate agent so EBP use my credit card to take funds out, and then do a bank transfer from EBP to my real estate agents bank account.

Was a 5 minute process to setup. Was very easy. Hopefully it works in 2 days when the bill is scheduled!

Ok i think thats different. My query was using DEFT. The DEFT portal i have to use they assign their own biller codes in it (bsb acc not made available) and my payment options are limited to DD from debit/savings account or credit card.
