I decided that on Day 3 I would wrest control from him. He needed to be both put in his place, and kept too busy to continue with his mischief. So I hatched a cunning plan to innocently invite him for a drive up into the hills. Somewhere I could achieve this, and also throw in a trifle of revenge.

So I took him away from the gentle coastline climate, straight up to the mountains where the sun is far more intense. And I put him to work. We took a track off the main road into some rugged terrain, which I knew would be strewn with rocks that get dislodged with the constant earth tremors. Clearly as the driver, it would be his task as the passenger to remove these offending articles. I selected a track that no-one uses anymore, so should be full of such rock litter. And it was :)

I gleefully enjoyed this reversal of fortune, dear JohnM doing this rock clearing in the glaring sun, whilst I enjoyed my cars aircon along with a cool drink and yet another Marlboro :)

...........Anyway, probably none if this can really be true, but thought you may like to have a laugh over it while you are enjoying your Escudo beers
cheers!

I attempted a reverse hack on your crystal ball, but the attempt was completely unsuccessful - clearly either my hacking skills are unsound, or the crystal ball truly needs recalibration. All i could see through it was a static image - again very grainy - and indistinct. i could see a car, looked like a BMW or similar, and a young lass in the passenger seat. I sensed a name something like Martha??? This all made no sense.....

Well done Juddles but beware of the biologist's other "controlling" interest - insects.
On another note, from the photos your town looks quite peaceful and the surrounding area well worth exploring.

I am now aware of "The Botanist"s cover story - that expressed interest in insects. I actually learned a new word - "frass", a term we normal people would call insect poo. I am proud of learning this new lingo, but such trivialities will not distract me from interfering with his behind-the-scenes agenda of mayhem.

Talking of insects I would like to be a fly on the wall at this meeting of minds.:D

Yesterday we did a little exploring around Guanaqueros and to some of Juddles’ childhood fishing and hillside wandering haunts, with ceviche and an empanada for lunch at nearby Tongoy. Back in the afternoon to see the resident sea lions and dogs scrapping at the jetty as some fish were being cleaned.

Followed by dinner at home and a little too much red wine, my head is telling me this morning...

Did you go to one of the little restaurants right on the beach in Tongoy? I remember ordering some food and asking for pisco sours to drink while we were waiting. The reply was: "we don't have a licence, but we can offer you white or red tea..."

Thinking of pisco, I went to check in the back of our drinks cabinet and found half a bottle of Tres Erres (3 R's), a special one from barrica 12 that I bottled myself at the distillery in 2011! Can't have any now, still have to drive, but will make some pisco sours tomorrow.

In retreat, I furiously tried to build a fort - but it proved no better than the Alamo to the advancing blue alien. Soon the evil dictator was contemplating my next fate...

But then we discovered minerals. “We’re rich, we’re rich!” was the ecstatic cry of the parched and rapidly becoming deranged adventurers.

But, dang! Where’s a geologist when you REALLY need one to tell you just how rich you are going to be? Why, gone fishing in Tasmania on the ill-gotten gains of previous mine saltings, of course :p.
