Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Having made LTG in the past year, it is both great to have but terrible to have to rely on, in the event you drop.
Similar to health insurance - you don't ever want to be in a bad enough position where you have to use it.
It took me about 8 years to get LTG. Probably a lot longer than many.
have been relying on it for a few years now - almost no difference from our point of view to Platinum. Yes sometimes we have to go to Qantas Club rather than domestic business and sometimes we have ended up in (shudder) the international J lounge in Sydney but that’s about it.

Walk of shame to the international J lounge in SYD, how do you do it?!

More money in the bank account probably cushions the blow somewhat, I suspect.

I might experience this next time I go overseas as I expect to lose WP status when my membership year ends, but I’m nowhere near LTG.

:) :) Can’t stand the lounge, but generally we are in F lounges via cos, so the occasional slumming in the J lounge is OK :) We just don’t bother eating the slop in there as we know we will get an OK meal on the plane. We are flying Qsuites from Canberra to JFK next month, so I assume will have another quick visit to the horrible J lounge while in transit.

I have LTG and I can't think there will ever be a time I am happy to rely on it.

I am WP and can tolerate the domestic Business lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, but I don't like them...
The International combined Qantas Business/First lounges are cough in HKG.

Alternatively, I love the Perth Business lounge and the Melbourne & Sydney International First lounge (Even though Mel is on the decline with fodo and service) The first lounge in LA is pretty good too.
The First class check-in for Qantas International in Melbourne I love.

My point is however that some of the PREMIUM Qantas offerings are lacking.
I would rather sit in a terminal restaurant or bar than the QP at peak hour.
So the ONLY benefits I see to LTG is priority check in which you don't need for domestic and priority boarding which Qantas doesn't do.

So the theoretical benefits to LTG far outweigh the reality.

I'm nearly at the QF LTG mark, but with BA. In reality that means I have lifetime nothing and am still only actually 35% of the way to lifetime BA Gold (OWE, i.e. same as QF WP).

I do have lifetime QP but that obviously is only good for AA and QF, not other oneworld alliance airlines.

Seeing this thread again today was a bit sore. I have attained LTG with Qantas, but enjoy higher status. Likewise I have been Platinum + with LATAM for years, but today got an email advising I soon drop to their equivalent of QF Gold - not surprising as I have not credited anything to them :) (I was unaware that LATAM have the equivalent of a "soft landing", but this makes it clear they do.

At the end of the day I do like having that fall-back to LTG, but I think I am like many that to attain LTG you have probably been WP or P1 for quite a few years, so dropping hurts.

You don't like the new MEL Domestic J lounge?? I know the old one was very average but the new one is very very good.

I'm still to use my LTG, still managing to maintain WP since getting LTG in 2016.
